Sequels are they always dud? Or have some sequels proven to be better than the first film?

Adams Family 2 = loads better than the original. "You sent us to Summer Camp. They made us sing." American Pie 2 tomorrow! Teen Wolf Too had better special effects than the first. The Harry Potter series keeps getting better.

Wasn't this all dealt with comprehensively in Scream 2?

Better than original = Superman II, Godfather II, Batman Returns, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

What about franchises with a dud first sequel and great ones further down the line (Planet of the Apes?)

addams family 2 is the best movie ever, don't even remind me of the first one. god, the stirrings that produced in young me. 'hey, this girl playing wednesday is kinda...nice'. best movie ever.

Saw "American Pie 2" last night. I'm not certain if it was better than the first one or not, but it certainly was the funniest movie I've seen this summer. It's kind of cool how they've taken the teen sex comedy and fleshed it out with fully-rounded central characters who give the whole thing a believable air.

The Stifler kiss itself isn't that long, Anthony. That scene is HILARIOUS, though.

The band camp scenes kind of make the movie, though.

I thought Gremlins 2 was much better than Gremlins in the same way many people prefer Evil Dead 2 over the original. It acknowledges and revels in its campiness instead of being unaware of it.

Problem Child 2 is MUCH better than the first one. Ace Ventura 2 is the only Jim Carrey movie I've ever found funny.
