Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all
Soma
Ignorance is bliss

Happiness is fantastic - but it is certainly not sensible as a goal in life. Happiness is the first to suffer from self awareness, minor foibles of life, sleep and other slings and arrows of every day life. Go to sleep happy you won't wake up happy (you may wake up contended which is possible a better life goal).

But happiness is great. Happiness the film is good but unpleasant and Happiness the TV series was just bleuh.

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, happiness is not overrated, but the active pursuit of it is.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

What Archel said.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 10:30 (twenty-two years ago)

So what kind of things should one be pursuing (that will serendipitously result in happiness?)

Be nice to old ladies and kittens. Don't drink too much. Happiness will be yours.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Find something easily attainable that makes you happy and do it forever.

There's a flaw here if only I could see it...

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I could be bounded in a nut shell and count myself a king of infinite space, were it not that I have bad dreams.

NO.

Put down the pint and look again.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

No, happiness is not overrated. Cars, big houses, "good" jobs are overrated. Doing your thang, however, is not.

Mike (mratford), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I object to you referring to my wife as a "thang". (It's "Mrs. Thang" to you, buddy.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

*looks in horror at what he actually said as opposed to what he thought he was saying, then shrugs and decides it's funnier this way*

I'll answer this when I experience it!

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 1 June 2003 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

the only happiness i know is mania which is exactly like a drug in that it's fantastic and euphoric and yet the comedown is inevitable and unbearably awful.
