xXx: Classic or CLASSIC?

How much did I love this movie? How great were the stunts? How cute would Asia Argento be if she had hips?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think you loved this film!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, you always pick the coolest movies to start threads about! (Unless jel has it wrong.) Very very fun movie, although I thought the last stunt wasn't quite as good as what preceded it. Small complaint.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Classic! Can we talk spoilers? ("Bitches (clap clap) come.")

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i am so ovah [xXx] yes i am i am i am i am... what? a film? what do you mean a film? about [xXx]?

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Felicity strikes on what made this movie so fantastic; the ridiculous over-the-top flourishes done by both Vin Diesel and the bad guys. Diesel also does a very good job of portraying Xander as simultaneously being a hard-as-fuck criminally-inclined guy who nevertheless has a moral center; the scenes in particular where he watches what happens to the scientists are particularly effective in this, as are the scenes in Colombia.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll see it when it comes out! (saw Reign of Fire, that was one funny film, but I can't remember what happened in it now)

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 3 September 2002 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend saw this and she talked about it with lots of scorn like it was a bully that stole her lunch money.

Honda, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Xander as simultaneously being a hard-as-fuck criminally-inclined guy

That's the part I have a problem with, a hard-as-fuck criminally-inclined guy named Xander. Might as well name him Tarquin or Marion.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

daniel.

the fur coat made this movie suck

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel exactly opposite to anthony on the Vin furcoat and shaved head issue. And Asia's shearling coat and gothy lingerie were awesome!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Diesel also does a very good job, assuming the next line after this isn't of APPEARING to be a complete moron, is either a bald face lie or complete fantasy. That said he is very sexy (Matt Damon/Ben Affleck fans kiss his bald ASS!) in a dumb/ugly kind of way (I LOVED THE COAT, too!!!) But he can't act his way out of a paper bag (his facial contortions during the DYING scientist scene had me in stitches.)

And XXX is NO LIKE MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Woah, Asia Argento has hips like mine, and that's very, very bad.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually Alex, "xXx" featured the best acting I've ever seen from Vin Diesel. He really sucked in "Boiler Room" and I refused to watch "The Fast and The Furious" due to his moronic monotone in the previews. It was a shock to me that he was actually capable of varying the inflection of his voice.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan you gotta watch The Fast and the Furious!

Kris (aqueduct), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Vin "acting" = moving his eyes from side to side

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Oscar is his already!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

dan: word

Vin Diesel (donut), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 15:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i became stupider after watching this movie

jack, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

a criminal with a heart of gold? that's vin's character in pitch black, boiler room, fast and the furious....

boxcubed (boxcubed), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Vin had a character in "Boiler Room"? I just remember him glowering at Giovanni Ribisi.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought he did a very good job in "Pitch Black", at least as good as his role in xXx. Looking at imdb has also revealed that he was the voice of Iron Giant!!

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the only good thing about old mr. baldy head.

Dan is OTM! Great film! If you don't like xXx, you don't like fun.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 20 October 2002 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

If you never saw it, does that mean you are indifferent towards fun?

One day I might see The Iron Giant when my utter loathing of Harry Connick Jr. has cooled to mere white-hot contempt and rage.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 October 2002 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

''If you never saw it, does that mean you are indifferent towards fun?''

Josh to thread!

aajjgg1469: no matter what indie kids listen to, the only music they allow themselves an emotional connection to is indie, which makes their love of other genres condescending at best.
aajjgg1469: "love"
aajjgg1469: this is olde territory.
aajjgg1469: i watched XXX last night, with vin diesel.
aajjgg1469: have you seen it?
Dubplatestyle: i have not
aajjgg1469: its not bad as eye candy, though vin diesel looks hilarious when he is trying to kiss asia argento. i cant even believe he was allowed to do it on screen. he looks like he is trying to kiss his mother, and trying at the same time to recoil from the fact that he is kissing his mom, and also trying to convince his mom that he is a good kisser.
Dubplatestyle: hahahaha
Dubplatestyle: please revive the XXX thread and post that
aajjgg1469: ok
aajjgg1469: its going to be hard to find the thread, unless you remember what it was called.
Dubplatestyle: "dumb movies we have loved"
Dubplatestyle: no no
aajjgg1469: got it.

Oh.My.God

Triple X 2!!! With Ice Cube!!!

April!

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 January 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

No Vin Diesel though. William DeFoe is the baddie.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 23 January 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

I think Ned's too hard on Harry Connick Jr. I feel a little sorry for him, in a Bobby Darin-ish kind of way.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 23 January 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

What the hell is wrong with you people?

Ice Cube is the new xXx, what can be more important than this????

jel -- (jel), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:22 (twenty years ago)

This must have been discussed on another thread, it's the only logical answer.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

This is completely awesome.

ice cube!! why did this take so long

:| (....), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

Whoo!
I'm so glad they haven't deviated from the original - in fact, it's like a remake but with different characters. More like a series, guess. It works!
"I'm gonna need some serious gear." Yes!
And Xzibit too! It is hard not to make Pimp My Movie jokes...

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Monday, 24 January 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm surprised Xzibit wasn't in the first "xXx"! Same with X-Clan and The X-Cutioners.
