i have just finished it, and i am confused. What is it really about-did he have sex with the horse ? It is a horrifying and haunting work. tell me about it.

the film was odd i remember from watching it in my early teens, purely bea#cause there was nudity in it (was it Jenny Agutter?? rowr) but yes, there was sex with a horse in the film, and a scythe in the eye for one horse.

When I saw the University of Manchester's Drama Society production in 1993 I was struck by how bad the play was but how gorgeous the leading actress was (more so than Jenny Agutter, yes) and I cursed myself for dropping out of the auditions.

I don't know. I don't think she has sex with the horse so really either end would have been a bum deal. Though I suppose the front is generally considered the plum role.

I really like the play, but can see how it would be hellish if the design end of things wasn't up to scratch. The guy didn't actually have sex with the horse, I think, just that riding (fnarf fnarf) the horse was a weird sexual/religious experience for him.

I saw it onstage in Dublin once, and considered it to be a truly masterful piece of work. It's the same guy who wrote the plays Amadeus and the Royal Hunt of the Sun? what a star. And his brother scripted The Wicker Man. RoXoR.

But what is Equus about? er, can't remember, mad lad mutilates horses for no obvious reason while psychiatrist has nightmares about being an Aztec priest sacrificing a procession of teenage boys? Very exciting.
