Bogie or Snot Bogey?

Can anyone tell me what spelling of the word is used to mean dried up mucus in the UK? Is it 'bogey' or 'bogie', or are they interchangable: can one pick either, depending on the circumstances? This may seem somewhat trivial ... but that is the question.

Bogey I'd say. Snot is the non dried up stuff. BUT WHY DO YOU ASK?

i'd always spell it bogie. but i ain't so good at spelling.

also, we say bogieman, americans say boogieman - but he is neither made of bogies nor does he boogie. so what gives?

Chambers Dictionary gives Bogie as the word for the number of pivoted undercarriages on a train, and Bogey as the hanging bat thingy.

What the correct spelling for the abbreviation of Humphrey Bogart's name is, I cannot say....

I thought Americans called him the Boogerman?

I am something of an authority on this, having started my glittering journalistic career with The Daily Bogey, a quality broadsheet co-founded and lovingly drawn by myself and my friend George, age 7.

with apologies to Terry Jacks:

We had joy, we had fun
Picking bogeys in the sun
But the sun got too hot
And the bogeys turned to snot.

I wrote and had a book published recently, which available through Amazon. This is not the time or place to be all spammy Ewing, so I won't give details or nothing. But it is right rummy, you know ... I mean, I proof read the manuscript over and over, obsessively, for months; and now I spot an error - when it's too late. Why can't words all be the same? Can any amount of proofing be enough? Perhaps that's the real question here.

But the sun got too hot
And the bogeys turned to snot.

How could this happen?

Bogeys only turn to snot when they need advice.

You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose...

Dan Perry: it sounds like you were about to say 'but you can't pick ... '. What can't you pick, Dan?

Owen, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Pick up dan ...

Owen, Wednesday, 4 September 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

...but you can't pick your friend's nose! OR CAN YOU???????????

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 4 September 2002 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

only to ensure they are no longer your friend. Unless your friend has no arms.

I had a friend like that once. He had a wicked temper but was fairly harmless.
