About a month ago I was walking through the parking garage on my way to work and saw a hawk devouring a pigeon carcass on somebody's someone's car.

Blood and feathers everywhere. Then the hawk turned and CAWED at me.

“Look into the eyes of a chicken and you will see real stupidity. It is a kind of bottomless stupidity, a fiendish stupidity. They are the most horrifying, cannibalistic and nightmarish creatures in the world.”

Oh god, a few months ago I saw a seagull standing over the carcass of a pigeon that it had clearly killed, cawing to keep others away, and then devouring it. It was horrible.

One thing that pisses me off about Springwatch/Autumnwatch is that it seem like Britain is only really good for a variety of bird-life, instead of cute mammals. We need more otters.

oh god i was in the pet store the other day looking at this blue finch. not to by mind you but i was waiting for beeps to quit ooohhinh and ahhhing at ferrets and rats. anyway im not a huge bird fan but the blue finch was beautiful and then i found out finches cost $100!! $100 for that teeny, tiny yet v cute thing. crazy.

ducks, of course, famously mate through males gang-raping the females.

I'll never forget taking a walk in Englewood and watching a pair of Florida Blue Jays

I'll never forget walking around in the subdivision I lived in in Englewood and watching a pair of Florida Blue Jays repeatedly dive-bombing a big old buzzard. The buzzard was pretty much ignoring them.

birds rule and birdwatching is one of the best pastimes ever! blackbirds are pretty much the pinnacle of nature's beauty and design for me:

here's a recording of a blackbird singing

destroy: I wouldn't dare destroy any species of birds, though I really hate pigeons, fuck them

The steller's jays in our neighborhood have learned to mimic the scream of the red-tailed hawk. I'm not sure what the point is for the jay to learn that, but it's a very convincing imitation.

four years pass...

two women who sit near me at work are obsessed with some bird-sighting-in-Manhattan website. It's a whole new insane-nerd niche I never knew existed.

Herons are great. Graceful, beautiful, and they make an extremely stupid noise.
