and really you should be double checking against wiki anyway.

0 so far but that's more luck (not writing today but busy enough not to need a wiki black hole timesink) than design

obv you should use it as a sole resource for REAL RESEARCH but if you use it 50 times a day to remind yourself of some simple fact or settle some argument or whatever, it's easier to go to the one site you know will always be at the top of google results and is (kinda) reliably accurate than to take the extra 30 seconds each time to hunt around for some other source, that time adds up.

and again i'm not LOST without it or desperate to find a work-around for the next few hours, but i go to it habitually enough that i'm cracking myself up going to it 10+ times and seeing the blackout screen

i'm not incapable of living without wiki but it's certainly my first point of call for double-checking minor points of fact/idle thoughts, often just cos it's the first google search result and i know the rough likelihood that it'll be reliable.

which is becoming clear to me today - i think i've done about six what-was-that-again forays, all very casually so that i completely forgot about looking at the cached instead of live page.

google's sympathy vote would have had a lot more impact if they'd blacked out their own site for a day. understand why they're not willing to lose the traffic though.

No times. Went once deliberately to see what happened, and tried the app on my phone to see what happened too. Nothing happened.

maybe i'm wrong but i feel like google would have more to lose, in terms of driving people to bing or whatever for a day, than wiki would

So I know it's pretty insignificant matter, but I wish Wikipedia had been able to give itself a nickname that people would have latched onto so we wouldn't be stuck with "Wiki." I gave in ages ago, but it always feels wrong.

They're still fighting that battle over there, though of course it's been lost since day one.

Yeh, iatee, same. First I forget about the strike and click on the link to the article. Then I go back, click to open the cached page, then IMMEDIATELY CLICK ON A LINK TO A SECTION ON THE PAGE :(

Each time I click, remember, curse, hit back back back!, see the article for a split second, then blackness.
