Monogamy: classic or dud?

nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey I was gonna axe this question! I don't know the answer tho'.
I think you should just do whatever's easy or whatever you can get away with, or something. I'm not a hippy tho'.

duane, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually I think monogamy's a good idea, it instils confidence in you on the part of the other person. It's just dumm when as soon as you get w/ someone they expect it automatically, I mean what'd these stupid modern people reject traditional christian jew values for in the 1st place if it's still just automatically assumed yr gonna act like yr married without even having the contract & shit, hell w/ that.

duane, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

From where I sit it is a dud. Honesty on the other hand is classic. I would rather be honest than monogamous.

Mascara, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There's much debate now that monogamy is unnatural, that biological instincts drive us to seek better mates... Religious stigma and inequality of the times kept marriages together. Not sure if I entirely agree, but it's a compelling case nonetheless.

two weeks pass...
DUD DUD DUD DUD DUD DUD FUCKING HUGE BIG OPRESSIVE DUD I should try to make a well reasoned or at least half-justified answer but I am feeling too irritated with monogamy lately...why are there so many monogamists posting here????

Tart.

Graham Hanle y, Monday, 27 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, it's true. You see, in the olden days men and women would copuscrew and the man would then go on to moving rocks and fighting bears, impregnating other women and so forth while the woman became pregnant, fat and lazy. By the time the kid popped out, she was sick of it. For, in the olden days people were less tolerant of babies. All except the olden people who were smarter and more sensitive due to them having more life experience than the younger people, who just wanted to have sex all the time. The olden people would take care of the children while the younger people would go off and continue fornicating, leaving a litter of pups wherever they went. They didn't have no sense to take care of them. So the olden people did. Nowadays, it's we, the younger people, who raise our own damn kids and that's just fucked up when you've got a perfectly good olden person just sitting around collecting social

Ever noticed how whenever you see some couple hanging onto each other for dear life they're always ugly?

dave q, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ever notice how everything dave q says is really controversial and shocking;) ?

gareth, Tuesday, 28 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Actually, I never have. Is that why people keep comparing me to him (him being superior to me, of course)? If this sort of stuff seems controversial to ya, go enjoy your milk and toast. These are pretty conservative discussions, it seems to me. Reminds me of Frontline sometimes.

Nude Spock, Wednesday, 29 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

a dud for monogamy and for dave q's attempts at being controversial. Duane says that monogamy's a good idea 'cos "it instils confidence in you on the part of the other person". Why is it that nearly every monogamous person i meet has to lie about or play down their attractions to other people or their imagined or real indiscretions? How can you have confidence in someone who's oppressing you and is consumed with self-obsessed jealousy and paranoia?

hamish n00nan, Wednesday, 29 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yo, nude spock?

i was being sarcastic, dave q never says anything controversial at all, because you always know exactly what he's going to say.

gareth, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Horses for courses. Being monogomous has never felt 'oppressive' or 'unnatural'to me. Agree with Mascara on 'honesty' being more important. Just accept some actually choose to be monogomous rather than have the choice imposed on them.

stevo, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Controversy = Dud

dave q, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gotcha. So, I guess people always know what I'm gonna say, too. :-( I am predictable.

Nude Spock, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What is mono in the States when refered to as a disease. We don't have it in the UK. We postulated it might be what we call glandular fever but a wee bit of enlightenment might be a good thing.

Pete, Thursday, 30 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am monogamous. I am happy. I don't see it as something unnatural; there are animals who are monogamous and there are animals that aren't - why is it constantly assumed that the human species is the nonmonogamous type? Anyhow, it doesn't really matter if you are or you aren't as long as you're honest with yourself and hopefully the other people about it.

Oh, and define "clinging for dear life".
