my writing improves drastically with blue, hopefully somebody else can confirm this isn't me being mental

teaky frigger (darraghmac), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 10:23 (fourteen years ago)

I prefer blue, but I think most people like black. Black ink always looks messy to me, unless the writer has particularly neat handwriting.

Black and proud

For some reason, black at work, blue at home. Only nutters use 'other'.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 10:26 (fourteen years ago)

A pen that writes nicely and feels good is more important than the colour of the ink, of course

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 10:31 (fourteen years ago)

that's.......... uncomfortably close to a reassuring sexual metaphor

teaky frigger (darraghmac), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 10:35 (fourteen years ago)

Indeed, I'm normally a one pen man but I've got two on the go at the moment

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 10:38 (fourteen years ago)

Blue. My job is nowhere near paperless, and blue ink makes it easier to discern photocopies from the originals at a glance.

naus, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:06 (fourteen years ago)

Black.

xp I use a fountain pen that I've had for ~20 years and a Parker ballpen, and that's it, apart from a mechanical pencil and various highlighters.

Funny how nobody ever nicks a red pen off my desk.

I can scribble with the red, but when I look through notes, I have to 'make-an-effort' to read them as my default setting seems to be 'ignore anything that's not black or blue writing'

Poll needs green option, what other colours are used after all?

Blue ink. Black alarmingly stark. Blue friendlier. Really need to get a good, new pen in fact. Timely.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:30 (fourteen years ago)

Although since I seem to be thinking entirely in telegraph sentences maybe I have no need of anything other than an electrical finger tapper.

Fizzles, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:31 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno it has a certain poetry

Charles Kennedy Jumped Up, He Called 'Oh No'. (Tom D.), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:34 (fourteen years ago)

blue-black is missing; it's the only one i use. i tried clicking in between the buttons and it didn't work, so i didn't answer

gnome (remy bean), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

Blue-black I might do, in fact. All the seriousness of black, but with the morbid sense of authority softened.

three blue biros in a holder to write out lines 3x faster

Oh god, I had that book. Can still recite the alphabet backwards at lightning speed.

Derartu Cthulhu (NickB), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 12:06 (fourteen years ago)

I learned a handy technique for pinging elasting bands from that book...

treefell, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

elastic even

treefell, Wednesday, 25 January 2012 12:50 (fourteen years ago)

I had that book and its sequel (yes, there was a Whizzkid's Handbook 2). I learnt many ways to pretend to be too sick to go to school, all even less convincing than putting on a croaky voice and refusing to move.

I bought a 4-colour biro for my German classes with the vague idea of writing masculine nouns in blue, feminine in red, neuter in green, but it makes a really loud click when switching colour, which probably makes everyone else in the class hate me when we're given a vocab list and I'm swapping every word.

Blue. The cheaper the pen the better.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

To me pens are like lighters: no matter how cheap they are I still get quite attached to them.

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 January 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

Both pens and lighters, especially cheap ones, can be infuriating enough for that not always to be true. Sticky ratchets/poor ink flow - where both are just about manageable - are amongst the most trivially infuriating things on earth.

Both produce a reaction of furious shaking to remedy their shortcomings.

yeah i have a pretty weird attachment to / obsession with mine - i've got several dozen in my backpack, though i won't use more than one or two at a time. when i take in-class notes, it must be in black ink; when i review, blue

tebow gotti (k3vin k.), Saturday, 28 January 2012 00:07 (fourteen years ago)

the only thing i really use pens for is crosswords, and i demand blue.

when my crossword pen runs out, i can never find a proper replacement. this is what i hate about modernity -- everything has to change for change's sake. what technological breakthroughs are driving changes in pens? why must the shampoo formula be changed? etc.
