Former ILXor and high school buddy of jjj and me Fluffy Bear is participating in this this year with his fiancee and brother. Here's the website for the shanty they are running, which is a letterpress that prints postcards and a newspaper:

They are looking for Twitter-sized submissions from everywhere, about anything. They have two more weekends of papers that they plan to print and are looking for tweets tagged with #ShantyQ or submissions on the web form here:

I strongly encourage ALL of ILX to spam all unholy fuck out of them with the weirdest things you can think of; so far they have printed EVERYTHING submitted to them.

Beyond this plug, peruse the other projects going on; many of them are interesting/funny/self-indulgent and I wish I was in town to go see them.

i have been to this and it is notably badass.

there was a lot of cool stuff! head mounted pinhole camera masks! an enclosed bulb like multiperson sit and spin! the bizzaro political parody shanty!

I went to it in 2010, it was awesome. Mike Haeg had his dice houses with board games inside them. I got and read my first John Le Carre novel from the free book shanty. I was not allowed to eat at the poutine shanty :(

medicine lake is super shallow...the part it's on probably isn't more than 3/4 feet deep...i think that lake is like 12 feet max in the middle

Lake is frozen. Trucks on the ice. Sauna shanty is now on ice (Sauna shanty built into an old Airstream trailer). ASP so close to shore; if you fell through the two feet of ice, you would hit sand. gbx, dance shanty is up and bouncing, plus it is HUGE this year.

Oh + hi dere. When DJP said he was posting this, I came in and discovered that my new work does not think this is social networking.

the dance shack was fun! my lil' one got to dance to Ma$e on a frozen lake. big moment.

It's a very common comparison for obvious reasons. There actually are a couple freezing man festivals in Alberta and Switzerland. I don't mind the comparison; it's just kind of boring. If you really want to make me sad, you'll email me your SSN, bank account, and credit card numbers.

i hav made some tweets lookin forward to being immortalized

the Art Sled Rally in Powderhorn a couple years ago had a big structure made of old Christmas trees that was set alight on the lake using a car battery. Then some dudes roasted a goat.

We're doing it again.

We're crowd-sourcing a text, and publishing this original document live, on an antique letterpress in our shanty on June 9th at Northern Spark, an all-night city-wide arts festival in Minneapolis, modeled after the Nuit Blanche.
