The numbering system has got a bit approximate.

Wednesday, September 11, 2002 - Upstairs at the Blue Posts on Newman Street from around 6 onwards. All welcome. Cheers!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 6 September 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

All welcome

This means YOU Ms L.

Graham (graham), Friday, 6 September 2002 13:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gutted that, barring a miracle, I can't make it as my otha half also has a book-related FAP on the same night and she got it in the diary first. So I'll be on kid duty an' ting.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 6 September 2002 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i will be there, and it'll be my last fap of the year (boston is but a week away...).

toby (tsg20), Friday, 6 September 2002 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

cool toby. I don't whether I'll go (its either the FAP or the AMM gig the previous day i think). My friend has burnt the skullflower rec (he's taking care of the artwork). if i don't see you i could send it otherwise that can wait a few months.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 6 September 2002 22:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Shame, I'll be in London the following day for a brief visit and it would have been nice to put a few faces to names. Ah well, enjoy.

stevo (stevo), Friday, 6 September 2002 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll very likely be there. Dr C: there is an invention called a 'babysitter'!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 7 September 2002 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Stevo, if you fancy a lunchtime pint or summat. drop me a line as I'll most likely be available.

chris (chris), Saturday, 7 September 2002 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll ditto what Chris just said, if you are a) interested and b) within lunch-hour convenience of the UCL/Tottenham Court Road area.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 7 September 2002 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Just to prevent this thread disappearing into the past and being missed...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 8 September 2002 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

hmm. Might do. See if I can lure Mr Passantino along too.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Sunday, 8 September 2002 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Excuses Chris, Martin I missed the thread (thanx for reviving it). Unfortunately change in plans means mrs stevo + i won't be arriving in London until 11.30 am Friday (Waterloo). If anyone's up for a pint Friday lunchtime (have to be central) or afternoon I'd be delighted.

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 8 September 2002 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I am equally available on Friday lunchtime, I expect, if you fancy hopping a Northern line train at Waterloo to meet somewhere on Tottenham Court Road - I don't know where might suit Cabbage, if Friday is on for him? Or if anyone else might be up for this?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 8 September 2002 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Excellent (+ thanks for the tube directions).

stevo (stevo), Sunday, 8 September 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday will most likely be ok for me too, (unless I get a second interview!!!)

chris (chris), Monday, 9 September 2002 08:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I could certainly do FAP (Lunchtiime Special) in said environ.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 9 September 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Me too probably.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 9 September 2002 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I could probably do this on friday.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 9 September 2002 10:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly I am now working again (?) and doing so in Hammersmith, so can't really come over for Friday lunchtime. Friday evening is a possibility.

This is a real shame 'cos Stefan has been v. nice to me on these boards in the past and I was looking forward to meeting him :-(

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 9 September 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

are you still going to the AMM thingy marcello.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 9 September 2002 11:12 (twenty-three years ago)

(i am heavily booked up all week sadly)

mark s (mark s), Monday, 9 September 2002 12:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Depends on who else is coming, Julio.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 9 September 2002 12:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll email you/post on the ILM thread tomorrow morning or tonight to tell you marcello.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 9 September 2002 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we move this, I have my own wedding to attend.

Graham (graham), Monday, 9 September 2002 13:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Shame marcello + mark, it would have been nice to meet but so close to Wednesday's bash I'm grateful anyone can find the space Friday lunchtime.

Martin, any idea which pub on Tottenham Court Road would be convenient for everyone? I'm desperately hoping the Eurostar isn't delayed so I can make it myself.

stevo (stevo), Monday, 9 September 2002 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooo dunno if I cd make a Friday lunchtime one, sadly :(

Sarah (starry), Monday, 9 September 2002 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Your own wedding, Graham? You've told us nothing of this!

I was going to suggest the Rising Sun (easy to find) if there were only a few of us but if there are several coming, maybe we should go for the Bricklayer's Arms? All the ones on TCR itself are likely to be very busy on a Friday lunchtime, so this (tucked away off any thoroughfares as it is) seems a decent bet. I think most ILE people know where it is and Pete mentioned recently that its refurbishment is complete and it has reopened.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 September 2002 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Marcello- my email account is fucked up at the moment and I can't find the AMM thread on ILM. so just to say that I am going to the gig and I'll be there at 7 pm.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 08:15 (twenty-three years ago)

**and Pete mentioned recently that its refurbishment is complete and it has reopened**

And you still trust Pete after the last *visit* to the Bricklayer's?!!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 08:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Dr C was that not the same night that you announced you knew a really great late-night drinking den in Waterloo and it turned out you meant the Coopers Station Pub!!!?

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 08:25 (twenty-three years ago)

what time? 2pm onwards...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 08:32 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry typed the wrong key. 1pm...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 08:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha Tom no that was a different night (Lyceum rather than Fitzroy) and frankly after the way I felt on Saturday I am vvf pleased that Dr C was mistaken on that occasion. So, perhaps, should you be.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 08:45 (twenty-three years ago)

**Dr C was that not the same night that you announced you knew a really great late-night drinking den in Waterloo and it turned out you meant the Coopers Station Pub!!!?**

As Tim sez - no, the next FAP. B-b-but I have BEEN in that pub way past closing time on several occasions! Often a useful way to get 'one for the train'.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I can make tomorrow guys, due to looming deadline hell. As Mark said on another thread, if you catch me posting shout at me.

BUT - I will be able to come out on Friday.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i wanna go to "The Feathers" in worcester for some reason..

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm keeping my spending and drinking down and am not in a grebt "loads of people" mood - in fact I am being very socially bad these days, so I won't be along. I think I need a bit of time away from London to be honest!

Haha I will just be playing Zelda.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

(Update! update! unless i put you in SUCH a bad mood, in which case the terrorists have won.) go to the feathers, starry, and ask for tankpuss, ha ha

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

No I just updated! You were not so bad I was just getting a bit frustrated with you and your pr0n talk.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

O-ho so I am the villain!!

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh hello Tom did you catch the sculptors muse then?

OK you were not as bad as the other two but only cos you came in late and then scoffed a STEENKY curry.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

No I did not, I went and explored the Boggy Swamp a bit.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Arse I still have a lot to do there including protecting the farmers fecking snacks - which now I can't find again SIGH...

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, Julio, I guess 1pm sounds a sensible time. I expect I'll only be able to stay about an hour, then I'll have to get back to work.

Should Friday have been a separate thread? FAPIX (phappicks!) or FAPVIIIa or something?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i am thinking i might make it, later on, i'm supposed to be studying for the course i'm doing this week (or at least, going to bed early), but its really dull, and i'm need of a break, so i might see you there...

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 19:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I might be there, but I might be not, as I'm feeling tetchy (ref Mike Atherton describing Nasser Hussain)...and I think I have a cold coming on.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm coming, but I'm poor, but I need to go out quite badly.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be coming along if nothing turns up...I'm gonna try and arrange to see a friend of mine as well.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Due to fixture pile-up I will not now be able to make it tonight - ah, the weeping and wailing is almost audible - because I had managed to triple book myself. Sorry.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 07:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually, just realised that I am miles too skint for this at present. Soz... (really fancied pestering Tom about t'Ballboy piece - I disturb myself sometimes)

Anytime round Christmas hols should be OK, tho.

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 09:35 (twenty-three years ago)

< bad mang > bad smell party < / bad mang >

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:04 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha it's Thursday already (according to New Answers) so you've all missed it!

Jeff W (Jeff W), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still up for it but I may need to have my life ruined for me.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff, you have to set your time zone when you log in, otherwise it will be tomorrow too early

zebedee, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:24 (twenty-three years ago)

PUB ETIQUETTE POST: We're looking at about 10-12 attendees, which is about £15-£20 per round assuming that not everyone will need a drink at the same time. You shouldn't expect to buy more than one round during the night. Chris is cadging, anyone else in this position should speak now or remain silent.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

(Put a ";)" after that if you like - I'm only saying this cos on previous FAPs certain people have been hit with viciously large bar bills and it's a good idea to share the burden!)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Younger people never buy drinks (I'm talking generally). Is this because they are scared to go to the bar, poor, or just wicked and need to be shouted at?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

HEY I do, but have to stick to small rounds because I *am* poor! I take offence! Am I still counted as a youngster?!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No - red hair is a signof maturity and a large income. When I was poor I couldn't afford hair-dye.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahem I do not know what you mean, my hair is entirely natural (hem-hem).

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I overestimated the round size a bit - assuming you're buying for half the FAP goers it shouldnt be more than £12, it being a Sam Smiths pub (difference in incomes among FAPgoers is one reason we choose Sam Smiths too!)

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

"You shouldn't expect to buy more than one round during the night": uh?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

What Tim said.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim - assuming everyone gets theirs in. Actually the maths doesn't quite work out if its 12 rounds of 6 each. 12 rounds of 8 each (2/3-rounds) probably approximates an avg evening's drinking better.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely the rules are best explained that 1 round plus half a round with someone else is an acceptable way round this?

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

"way ROUND" (do yoo seeeee)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim must NOT be taken advantage of. This is why I left London - I couldn't bear to see it any longer.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

(What Nick means is I had a hit squad out for his blood)

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha ha - my cunning plan to exploit Tim so that Nick would leave for Scotland worked.

Tim's not going to be there tonight and Tom is worried that as the fastest dinker he's going to get hit. Ha ha.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

awwww i like it when i buy beer for Tim because he makes me think i am the Angel Of Beer (ps this will not work for any of the rest of you)

katie (katie), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I fear I might even be faster than Tom, at least in the early part of the evening. Damn my shrieking guts and their effect on my wallet.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

You know, i never used to hang around with people who bought rounds til i started hanging round with you lot. Certainly at college and when i was in chelt after that, it wouldn't have crossed my mind, not that this is a bad or good thing, just noting a cultural change...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Tight ass.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember Steve when he was in Cheltenham, and I can vouch for the truth in what he says about buying a round never crossing his mind.

Har.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Ptee, what does your admiration of Carsmile's posterior have to do with buying rounds?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

It is how he distracts me.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Hope it's going well. You all having fun and me being stuck in front of a computer.

Nick I am offended by your post. In one of two ways. Firstly if I am counte as young, then it's just plain WRONG because I have spent a fortune buying people drinks because I normally drink shorts, but cannot sip them in a ladylike way (see Emma and Suzy), but knock them back too fast and loose my purse. Secondly, if I am not counted as young, then WHY NOT?

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Damn you with your logic. [incidentally I don't think of you as young - sorry. and yes, you are the female Tim. Only in the sense that you buy far more drinks than you seem to get nack, I hasten to add]

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

err.. nack=back.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:54 (twenty-three years ago)

It's okay. I forgive you.

The latest purse was destroyed two weeks ago when my friend Lucas spilled red wine all over it. It had to be thrown away and my switch card is covered in red splashes. People keep looking at it with suspicion, but I'm on issue 7 already and I'm too embarrassed to ask for another one.

OldasthehillsAnna (Anna), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

i could be wrong here, but i'm pretty sure i usually buy my fair share of drinks, too.

(and if i am wrong then please tell me!)

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

But you are not young Toby (nor Toby Young). Not in World Of Dastoor anyway.

Anna (Anna), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

money= the cause of all probs w/the world

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

My post above had no quantitative effect but on the other hand I did my share of cadging.

We ended up tonight with: i) a definition of indie. ii) a theory of pop and religion iii) the secret knowledge of Earth's third moon.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh...pop and religion now that's something I'd like to hear.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

counte

You are Olde.

Tom, do not talk about such things online or we will be shut down and rubbed out.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

This means YOU Ms L.

Hey, is that me?

Miss Laura, Thursday, 12 September 2002 06:24 (twenty-three years ago)

beer had the strange effect of making me wake up this morning and not be able to get back to sleep, but no hangover thankfully. ANd thanks to everyone I cadged off!!!!

The definition of indie is safely stored away in my bag, although I believe Joe has a copy too.

chris (chris), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I've realised that the secret definition of indie is rubbish.

Graham is right - we are all in trouble now.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is the second moon?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I will burn it as soon as I get home then.

Nick, you are not allowed to know about the second moon.

chris (chris), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Defn of indie = clearly rubbish, at least if it didn't develop from what was originally written down.

2nd moon = not a moon at all, as it quite clearly orbits the Sun not the Earth.

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Second 'Moon'
Third 'Moon'

Simeon (Simeon), Thursday, 12 September 2002 09:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes well, somewhere else in same town, we realised a significant thing about Cornwall and it's BOUZE ie it is all mad dog 20/20.

Ur yes Tom, some of your Cornish wine has gone. You may thank me later.

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 12 September 2002 09:03 (twenty-three years ago)

elsewhere i watched the twin towers fall and fall, to the sound of xenakis and friends: this was a weird and stupid thing to do, albeit professionally necessary, as i then got next to no sleep and am cheap as you please this morning

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 12 September 2002 11:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I saw a single plane hit a building all of yesterday.

(And did the day really pass with no incidents AT ALL? No false alarms or interceptions or coincidences even?)

Graham (graham), Thursday, 12 September 2002 11:32 (twenty-three years ago)

there were no coincidences at all, but i think that was just luck

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 12 September 2002 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I think someone was arrested/thwarted somewhere in America.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 12 September 2002 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I watched the towers tumble repeatedly in slow motion, had one eye on Revolutionary Road to write a piece for CoM, thought about proposing a Dancehall Primer for the Wire (if one hasn't already done), listened to the S'Babes album for the 98th time this week, taped the Scooter CD for Simon R. Bedtime reading: 1985 by Anthony Burgess. Bedtime lullaby: I Am Sitting In A Room by Alvin Lucier - makes me feel I am somewhere else, somewhere better.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 12 September 2002 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I started watching the 9/11 thing on BBC, then had to abandon it when I became convinced that new family kitten has escaped into the garden. Stuck a tape in to record 9/11 and spent panicky 20 minutes in garden. Just deciding how to break news to kids ("she's not lost, just...erm") when she appeared from under the piano.
