I haven't even seen this, I just despise the poster and that horrible quote

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:21 (thirteen years ago)

a funnier, sunnier Donnie Darko otm

⚓ (gr8080), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:21 (thirteen years ago)

isn't 'eraserhead' juno as re-imagined by david lynch?

iatee, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

yes, this movie is just as horrible as you imagine.

Simon H., Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

I have no idea what's going on here, but I voted because I want to be able to complain when the results come out.

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

This is a very easy choice.

A funnier, sunnier (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

I left off "everyone involved in this should be shot" to try to force a choice

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:25 (thirteen years ago)

Really liked this tbh

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:27 (thirteen years ago)

Indie It-Girl Kat Dennings has become known for her winsome yet snarky sass appearing in a bevy of quirky features.

aagggh

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

I didn't think you could typo "ass"

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

i like how it takes 'david lynch' and 'donnie darko' as signifiers for 'sometimes the scenes are at night-time' and 'it is a bit rural'.

her winsome yet snarky ass

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure this doesn't need to be said, but those descriptors are as useless as, like, 'Wall-E except without robots and not animated, and also it takes place at the circus.'

there are two "weird" subplots, one involving a serial killer dressed in a white suit and the other involving strange smoke emitting from a nearby factory that you can tell they are really trying to do something profound with but neither has anything to do w/ the rest of the movie at all

⚓ (gr8080), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:34 (thirteen years ago)

creepy shit that has nothing to do with anything is pretty donnie darko-esque

the greates (crüt), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

how have so many people even seen this?

diln (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

O_o

That sounds like a student film.

A funnier, sunnier (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

crut otm but at least in donnie darko i can see what they were trying to do

⚓ (gr8080), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:39 (thirteen years ago)

i saw it because

1) kat dennings
2) a lynch fan blogger big upped it
3) was in the mood for something new+dumb

u_u

⚓ (gr8080), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:40 (thirteen years ago)

Having listened to the director's commentary on Donnie Darko, I'm convinced that the only difference between this (or any other) dumb-ass movie and Donnie Darko is dumb luck.

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

3) was in the mood for something new+dumb

This has led to so many regrettable movie experiences over the years. I never learn though

Number None, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

So does this imply that David Lynch is actually somewhere in between Donnie Darko and Juno?

And could you have a quote for Donnie Darko that says "makes David Lynch look like JUNO" but also one for Juno that says "makes David Lynch look like DONNIE DARKO"?

happiness is the new productivity (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:43 (thirteen years ago)

I have yet to see something starring Kat Dennings that wasn't terrible (aside from "The 40-Year-Old Virgin", which I basically forgot she was in) so I don't really understand why ppl seek her movies out.

I mean, I DO understand, I'm just saying.

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:43 (thirteen years ago)

strong drug use

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

She is ridiculously attractive but after seeing Nick+Norah, all I see is not nice boobies but hate+torment

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:46 (thirteen years ago)

I don't see movies with weak drug use.

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:46 (thirteen years ago)

Nick + Norah is an obnoxiously bad movie

the greates (crüt), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:50 (thirteen years ago)

doesn't get completely hatable until the finger-banging/equalizer shot

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:51 (thirteen years ago)

I was hating well before that

the greates (crüt), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:52 (thirteen years ago)

Michael Cera was what put it over the top in terms of hateability.

A funnier, sunnier (Nicole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

i wonder how much if anything they paid sonic youth for the name

the arm (NZA), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:54 (thirteen years ago)

doesn't get completely hatable until the finger-banging/equalizer shot

yeah, was only registering "strong dislike" prior to that

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

anyway, "juno as imagined by david lynch" ftw, cuz i'd happily see just about anything reimagined by DL

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

I feal like we should be focussing our ire on this Joe Leydon character: http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117943667/

Paragraph 1: Charged with alternating currents of teen angst, sardonic wit, nervous dread and impudent sensuality,
Paragraph 2: Whip-smart and wickedly droll,
Paragraph 3: Thoroughly bored yet still brazenly cheeky,

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

I never even made it to the fingerbang scene, that N&NIP was so terrible

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

IMPUDENT SENSUALITY

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

it was the worst

dennings fingerbang still in the plus column though

some dude, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

a runnier bunnier Donnie Darko

Exile in lolville (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

I don't like cheeky unless it's brazen.

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:00 (thirteen years ago)

Canadian writer-director Mike Goldbach is arrestingly inventive as he interchanges tones and upends expectations throughout an offbeat narrative about a sarcastic, sexually precocious 17-year-old, played with striking self-assurance by Kat Dennings, who barely maintains her bearings after moving to a small town only slightly less weirdsville than Twin Peaks.

wait, which is it; does she have striking self-assurance or is she barely maintaining her bearings

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

watching david lynch's facial expressions as he re-imagines juno would be better than n&n

the arm (NZA), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

michael cera gets fingerbanged in that movie?

Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:02 (thirteen years ago)

she is able to barely maintain her bearings because she is so strikingly self-assured. normal, unassured folks would be crushed.

the greates (crüt), Tuesday, 7 February 2012 22:03 (thirteen years ago)

the scene where kat dennings takes on the slut shamers is prob the best scene

Dedicated thread needed to unpack all the ways in which this writing is horrible.
