Finally a poll Minnesota can win. The only way this can go wrong is...if nobody votes, or if both options tie. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Poll Results

MINNESOTA implies a degree of enthusiasm I do not feel. Therefore, Minnestoa.

some kid in a band called 'howler' who are getting 'buzz' in the UK busts on his hometown to alex petridis! and he's pretty much right! 4 on the floor are crappy!

http://blog.thecurrent.org/post/2012/02/howler-rolls-out-new-ad-campaign-designed-local-agency-mono

'howler' have a high-powered marketing firm and a "is this racist?" web presence!

"I feel like there's this giant lull period of like 30 years. We had Tapes 'n Tapes kind of come out for a little bit, so that was kind of interesting, but the scene right now is interesting."

man i love the fact that u dudes also think 4 on the floor blows.

i think the dude from that article bought a pedal from me a while ago? he looks familiar

The day I was writing this was Minnesota Music Day, as pronounced by The Current. It also was Art-A-Whirl weekend, so it would have been the day to scramble over to Grumpy's Northeast to see two of your favorite local bands: Gay Witch Abortion and Seawhores.

goole, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 15:46 (thirteen years ago)

Hahahahah wait, so the Minneapolis music scene is terrible because the band names are terrible? Is that her entire argument?

also jjj, how was that show

So many out-of-staters who live here would apply that article to everything, not just music.

Björk lied (Eric H.), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 15:47 (thirteen years ago)

well, if there's someone who would know about minnesotans overrating a homegrown cultural product, it'd be a writer for prairie home companion

wack nerd zinging in the dead of night (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 15:49 (thirteen years ago)

also, Gay Witch Abortion and Seawhores are part of the solution not the problem with local music!

GWA should sit in with pat donohue sometime

goole, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 15:51 (thirteen years ago)

on a hunch, i just checked, and pert near sandstone and trampled by turtles have both performed live on a prairie home companion, which makes sense they totally bands that would be on that show.

which makes the thing weirder because she's kind of engaging in the art of pretend forgetfulness wrt those two bands.

i've seen trampled by turtles and i mean pop-ish indie friendly new-grass revival isn't my bag but they are good players and i can't really see getting your panties in a bunch about such a harmless band.

I'm just assuming this is not a face-value article tbh, because it makes almost zero sense as an earnest piece

or rather, there's a wholly defensible point there with a blatant, seemingly intentional lack of defense

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 16:03 (thirteen years ago)

doesn't the article make out like she just moved here?

i wonder how writers get hired for that show btw, seems like a really odd corner of showbiz but ppl must move in and out of there to tv, comedy, etc.

goole, Wednesday, 30 May 2012 16:04 (thirteen years ago)

I'm not from MN but I live with someone who is and gay witch abortion are awesome imo stfu haters

Steve Youngblood (dan m), Wednesday, 30 May 2012 16:06 (thirteen years ago)

why would they move on to comedy?

I bet I could start an all-flute rap band here called "Mr. Feepy's Intestinal Derivative," and as long as I pledged my allegiance to the Minnesota music scene, local music connoisseurs would be OK with it.

i wrote a sentence like this in an opinion article once but to be fair i was in 10th grade
