bet early on a loser, redial, hope everyone else sees the big picture - DOSH-A-dOODLE-dOO

a-33, Monday, 9 September 2002 05:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Did he win then? I missed it last night. I hope he did win - I know he's a bit slow and everything, but at least he's not as damaged as the deeply irritating Tara.

I would have liked Rhona to win - I thought she was the only sane one there, and she was hugely entertaining.

How long before I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Part 2 is on? Not long, I bet.

Who would you like to see marooned in the jungle for this type of game show?

C J (C J), Monday, 9 September 2002 05:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I said when this started (despite being rather vague on who some of the contestants were) that Blackburn would win. My reasoning was that everyone either likes him or likes him in an ironic fashion.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 September 2002 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

No martin, i hate him with a passion.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 9 September 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

'Everyone' may have been an exaggeration, Julio, but I was close enough that I did pick a winner, something I rarely manage (I will tip Bristol Rovers to piss off Tim by stuffing Exeter on Saturday though).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 9 September 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

julio who did you want to win then?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 9 September 2002 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

derek bailey

julio de s (david h), Monday, 9 September 2002 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Martin, you're probably right. I take it they'll be doing so with your clamourous support?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 07:45 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Julio - I'm An Improviser Get Me INTO Here!

Suggested line-up:

David S Ware as Nigel Benn

Mike Westbrook as Christine Hamilton

Dave Douglas as Darren Day

Han Bennink as Rhona Cameron

Steve Beresford as Nell McAndrew

Derek Bailey as Tony Blackburn

Bill Laswell as Uri Geller

Evan Parker as Tara Palmer-Tomkinson

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 10 September 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Why do you hate him, Julio?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 13:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry, Tim: I only get to nearby games. One a season, these days, tragically. (Actually we have only won one game so far this season and you are ahead of us, so I'm not terribly optimistic, but this sort of feeble banter seems obligatory.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Marcello. Use yr eyes. : )

david h (david h), Tuesday, 10 September 2002 17:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I was giving the characters a good kicking.

Frank Wheeler, Wednesday, 11 September 2002 06:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The idea of Steve Beresford as Nell McAndrew made me laugh out loud - brilliant, Marcello (although Rhona also = John Zorn)

Andrew L (Andrew L), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 07:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Result! I know NONE of Marcello's cast list. I am officially stupid! Or at least ILE stupid. Hurrah.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 19:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I only know two and one other rings a bell.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeez...I forgot abt this thread quickly.

''julio who did you want to win then?''

anyone but Tony and darren. I quite liked Nell (i really did but I hardly watched it with the sound turned up).

but it was just another flip comment.

heh...but this led to an interesting place. I'm really laughing out loud here. That was brilliant from marcello but I'd love to see Derek bailey on the Aussie outback.

''Why do you hate him, Julio?''

Um, saw him a few times on TV and it wasn't good...though I can't remember where exactly. annoying bloke...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Evan parker as tara...brilliant.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 11 September 2002 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...

^^^I just did a search for this thread to ask if anyone else has read his autobiography. The whole thing is brilliant, I know it's probably too obvious to mention Alan Partridge, but my god. Something about this very conventional, dull man who is at the same time incredibly strange, or possibly everyone is incredibly strange if you drill down deep enough, but he seems to have literally no filter so the strangeness is all on the surface? Also, the Partridge-esque lack of filter leads to this odd tension between the indefatigable never-say-die positivity and constant glaring insecurities and resentments
