Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 February 2012 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

I thought this wasn't shooting anytime soon?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)

Sylar nerve pinching Sherlock Holmes?

"Makes/Me/Wanna SCREAM"

robbery by sudden snatching (DJP), Friday, 24 February 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

it's shooting now, ILM's post-production/effects work begins in a few months

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 17:59 (thirteen years ago)

For a second there I read ILM as I Love Music.

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:05 (thirteen years ago)

Peter Weller is in this fwiw, which is promising. otoh it looks like they are tackling the Kahn storyline, which is not promising.

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:06 (thirteen years ago)

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it's kind of angry-making, the laziness. was really hoping they would come up with a good, new villain.

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:10 (thirteen years ago)

Like Nero from the first reboot movie? Oh wait...

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:11 (thirteen years ago)

lol exactly. The best Star Trek villains were always old hams... was trying to think of aging British actors they could rope in for such a role but couldn't come up with anyone besides Anthony Hopkins :(

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

Bana's easily the worst thing about the first movie, luckily he's fairly incidental to all the other great stuff

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

xp Brian Blessed?

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

Derek Jacobi!

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:13 (thirteen years ago)

Terrance Stamp?

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

"Kneel before Zod Khan."

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:14 (thirteen years ago)

I have no interest in the rest of this ST series, but they don't seem to have cast an actor as Khan, so maybe that's just some red herring?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)

Please no Khan.

WARS OF ARMAGEDDON (Karaoke Version) (Sparkle Motion), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:19 (thirteen years ago)

Khan more like Khan't.

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

I can tell there's going to be a million slash fictions launched from that first picture alone.

Nicole, Friday, 24 February 2012 18:23 (thirteen years ago)

it's Star Trek, that could have been a picture of Zachary Quinto holding a Tribble and it would have launched a million slash fictions

robbery by sudden snatching (DJP), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

I've seen this Cumberbatch in a couple films and he's really made no impression whatsoever on me.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

Well, ST has already tackled Sherlock Holmes.
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110318162518/memoryalpha/en/images/thumb/6/65/Sherlock_Holmes.jpg/598px-Sherlock_Holmes.jpg
So maybe it is a Sherlock/ST crossover.

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

but they don't seem to have cast an actor as Khan

they cast the guy from Carlos. Originally it was Benicio Del Toro but he dropped out. can you think of any other reason they'd be eager to attach a big name latino actor to the film?

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

a startling re-imagination of Nurse Chapel?

robbery by sudden snatching (DJP), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

However, Roberto Orci considers bringing Khan back a risky venture, saying "why take the chance?"

whew

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

Derek Jacobi!

Terrance Stamp?

would be down with either of these dudes, ESPECIALLY Stamp. figured jacobi was dead tbh.

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

hoping they do harry mudd instead

Little GTFO (contenderizer), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

xpost -- Nah he was in that Anonymous thing in fall.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 February 2012 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

Jacobi doesnt believe Roddenberry created Star Trek

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

hmmm I guess the Carlos-actor thing was a rumor from a month ago? dunno what to think now...

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:30 (thirteen years ago)

also casting another Latino actor as an Indian character wd be weird

yeah nothin on iMdB about Edgar Ramirez

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

well why break with tradition amirite

Artful Dodderer (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:35 (thirteen years ago)

Rumor has it they've been researching years of fan fiction to help construct the screenplay. It sounds like the new villain will be plucked straight out of trekfanfiction.net

Unleash the Chang (he did what!) (Austerity Ponies), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:39 (thirteen years ago)

Great, it'll be nothing but Kirk and Spock fucking their way around the galaxy.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 February 2012 18:42 (thirteen years ago)

Unless someone pens some Pulaski/Bev Crusher slash.

the feeling is surreal (snoball), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

This thread is reminding me of how fantastic the Rifftrax for the first movie is.

Nicole, Friday, 24 February 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

YES! So good

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 24 February 2012 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

Though y'all loathed every recent poorly executed remake, rehashed yucky sequels garner outpourings of delight. Does everyone enjoy dumb shit?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 24 February 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

That needs a #morbs hashtag. xxxp

Nicole, Friday, 24 February 2012 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

No, sorry, it needs an #obtusecallbacktoa3yearoldjoke hashtag.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 24 February 2012 19:13 (thirteen years ago)

I wish people wouldn't use "callback" for "reference." A callback is the reason a Broadway gypsy can't have sex with me on a specific day.

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)

"It's Morbz' tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurn!"

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 February 2012 19:24 (thirteen years ago)

Neddy, is that your audition for A Chorus Line?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 February 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

That...I can't do.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 February 2012 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

If it's not a callback, what exactly did you need those headshots for, Morbs?

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Friday, 24 February 2012 19:26 (thirteen years ago)

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." Morbz you need to take this on board in your criticism, the people need their spectacles.

Fighting neoliberal Federation complacency one stargate visitor at a time. (Actually that was the series that had baseball as a plot point, wasn't it? Avery Brooks's character was some sort of fan of the game.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 24 February 2012 20:51 (thirteen years ago)

Kirk: [hailing Khan] This is Admiral Kirk. We tried it once your way, Khan, are you game for a rematch? Khan, I'm laughing at the "superior intellect."
Khan: Terminator 2's "I am keeler robot who awnly shewts to vound" makes it the ideal Obamafan action crapper.

Actually I read all of Greenwald in the voice of Caliban ala Khan's death scene.

imho they took way too long to start on this, there should have been a star trek 2 in theaters 2 years later, i mean, what were those guys even doing

A Little Princess btw (s1ocki), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:27 (thirteen years ago)

apparently Chris Pine was making that spy romcom with Tom Hardy

robbery by sudden snatching (DJP), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:28 (thirteen years ago)

Agreed, it's not like Super 8 was so important it had to be rushed out to theaters before the sequel. There's no expiration date on emo aliens! xp

Nicole, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

OK, so from that video it looks like steampunk Sherlock Holmes beats up Spock...

three months pass...

And looking FURTHER ahead

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 June 2012 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure I'll love it, but I hope - HOPE - that they'll end it by somehow putting them back into the REAL timeline.

Spencer Chow, Friday, 8 June 2012 22:09 (thirteen years ago)

You know the third one will be some mirror mirror shit... hopefully done well.

^^the kind of open-minded attitude that Roddenberry championed all those years ago

they didnt have REBOOTS when Rodd came up w/ IDIC

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 9 June 2012 01:49 (thirteen years ago)

it's true, that word has only come into popular parlance in the last several decades.

if only they had it when Hammer started making Dracula films with Christopher Lee...I might have been less confused.

If you don't end it on the third film, you can't reboot it again.

If you don't end it on the third film, you can't reboot it again.

The original ST crew went 6 movies before the TNG took over!

Also:
Batman (1989)
Batman Returns (1992)
Batman Forever (1995)
Batman & Robin (1997)

Julie Derpy (Phil D.), Saturday, 9 June 2012 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

But rebooting is how things work now.

My only question is why it took them 4 years to make part 2, that's way too long a wait IMO

brony ver (s1ocki), Sunday, 10 June 2012 06:46 (thirteen years ago)

im assuming abrams took too long with super 8 and paramount didnt feel like getting someone else to do it. they had a 2012 release date set but when abrams finally committed there wasnt even a real script and it had to get pushed back

five months pass...

Star Trek Into Darkness. Hopefully they go the full Die Hard route with the sequels.

Don't know if they'll do it with this one, but I suspect the writers could revive all the Vulcans with the plot of Star Trek III.
