I love the guy from the IT crowd who was the cop in Bridesmaids and Rudolph's boyfriend (husband?) in this but . . . it doesn't look great. Am I still going to see it and be at least a little bit excited to do so? Yes.

the Jennifer Aniston/Jason Bateman version of this definitely went too heavy on the romance and heartstrings and not enough on the funny. It was a movie about jerking off into a cup and knocking up your best friend, I expect filthy filthy jokes.

Michael Shiver (Eric Schaeffer) is a cab driver in New York. One day, supermodel Sarah Easton (Amanda de Cadenet) enters his taxi and they have a short but intense exchange. A few days later, he sees her by chance when having dinner with his two close friends, and they have a short interaction.

The movie develops with the two of them becoming interested into each other and slowly falling in love, while Sarah's husband is away in Rome for two months. Michael occasionally writes her love poems and surprises her with romantic gifts such as a thousand roses delivered to her hotel room in Spain, when Sarah went there to visit her husband.

Towards the end, there is an intense conflict between Sarah and Michael, in which Sarah says how Michael doesn't understand her life and that everything happens on his terms. Michael reveals that he was a writer, and had known her kind of life, but did not feel fulfilled so gave up and became a cab driver instead. Sarah goes back to her husband, and Michael sends her his best-selling book (which made him famous in the past) along with a last letter with which the film ends.

If the movie was focused on Chris O'Dowd and Maya Rudolph, I'd be more inclined to watch it. Westfeldt and Adam Scott seem very boring together from the trailers/footage I've seen online.

i give this a B and it gets worse the more i think about it.

dramatically very patchy, some key developments are skipped over seemingly for convenience. (spoiler) the breakup with ed burns needed to be demonstrated, not just mentioned. it ends in a hurry. adam scott cries. the grodiness of the patter between scott and westfeldt's characters was a little too far over the line, seemed less 'of the moment' than sort of farrelly brothers-y.

all the performances are really good and everybody is well cast and well used; when one of the other couples comes onscreen the movie does take on some real life imo. ed burns is pretty charming! westfeldt is the weak link, which is i guess what everyone is saying.

i love how someone pointed out in a review that all you had to do to sell this movie was say: It's like Friends...with kids! kinda genius really in its simplicity. you wouldn't even have to have anything written down.

This movie caused me to have a lot of second hand embarrassment for everyone involved.

I mean the cast is good (except for Westfeldt), but the writing is so bad that it is painful to hear the actors say the dialogue.

westfeldt is just like really unappealing to me on a base level, she's like a less attractive and charismatic renee zellwegger. the movie just makes me feel gross, like everyone in it is shrill and terrible.

extra bonus points for making scott's rampant promiscuity and unsatiable lust for large-breasted women a "cute" character trait

this really is shockingly badly written, like in an almost amazing way. pretty awful

my bad movie (well this kind of bad) watching has gone up like 1000% since we started grabbing panic produce for recipes at a place with a redbox

haha watching this rn on netflix, 'hungover as shit', bored enough to just start looking at the internet instead of watching the inevitably terrible conclusion where adam scott figures out the banging a parade of hot, large-breasted women is less emotionally satisfying than living in brooklyn with mother of his child, whom he affectionately calls 'doll' for some terrible reason and then they are just rich yuppies forever

yeah this movie was a real shame, my sisters are obsessed with adam scott and even they didn't like it. in the same "rich yuppies with non- traditional relationships" vein I think "celeste and jesse forever" managed what this movie was aiming for more successfully (or maybe just "less irritatingly").

Don't get me wrong - this movie was kinda bad. The awkward hybrid of rom-com and existential midlife crisis drama ultimately didn't gel. Still think it was an admirable effort though.

i am sadly just interested enough in this movie that i am mildly disappointed when i think it's coming on tv but it's actually FRIENDS WITH MONEY or FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS
