I love being from England

When the world cup was on I like evryone else wore a football t-shirt. I had 2 1 with England on the front and 1 with Italia on. My boss stopped me and said that he found it worrying that people were being so patriotic and it would cause a lot of hate crimes etc. I disagreed and told him that is is not only the english that have flags etc and that though some things about the country I do not agree with I think we are really lucky and that england is a great country to live in . People only remember you by your fuck ups and I think that is why people think bad things about england because lets face it we've had some! But anyway what does everyone else think of the way people are ashamed of their country?

Yeh, totally Momus to thread. I read his essay on Edinburgh Festival. I'm not sure I agree with his hatred of Scotland - but that's obv biased by my love for it. Come on Momus, please, bile! (Bile, v. - to shower in putrescent yellow pus.)

i have never understood the notion of placing yourself in the larger group and being ashamed or pleased of where you were born.

Well, right now I'm pretty ashamed of Australia. I'll say that much.

one year passes...
So, I have finally booked a short return trip for a week or so in early September. I will have been away from English soil for almost a full year and a half. I am curious at to how strange everything will be when I come back, or will it still seem like "home"? Gareth showed me his Oyster Card and it totally freaked me out!!!! What other new and strange stuff will I find, I wonder?

You just WAVE them in the general direction of the gate? No card feeders or anything?

I love when someone put a female screen name, but then clearly a male name in their email address. This amuses me intensely.

Could you imagine if the people of London were chased around by fey Daleks that screamed "EX-FO-LI-ATE! EX-FO-LI-ATE!"?

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 June 2004 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)
