One argument in its defense could be that it snaps us out of a false earnestness - like we think we care about the Ebola outbreak or the Ukraine but actually we don't (in any real practical way - we just get on with our lives). Making a card game out of these things breaks the spell? (But who is 'we', etc)

I've gotta say, when they mixed in the ACTUAL CAD cards into my lovely game, the results, while occasionally funny, left me feeling a bit uneasy afterwards. And then the guy who runs the course gave me a small bollocking - these were (mostly sixth-form) kids, after all, even though they'd been happily playing it at breaktimes

Anyway, my brother made me watch The Inbetweeners for the first time just now and frankly if you enjoy that then you're on very, very risky ground slagging this game off

I've never seen it but isn't the usual defense that the joke there is that young men are often horrible at that age?

(not that I'm especially defending it either - just that there are certain levels of humour that can't be dismissed as purely the preserve of cunts when so many otherwise seemingly progressive & caring (albeit often quite young) people can partake in them)

The Inbetweeners and Peep Show were inevitably on in the house I was renting back when they first aired, because a housemate was a big follower of both shows. This housemate used to say things like 'Oh, that's me! Fuck, I am just like that!'

Both shows can be read as mocking flawed characters or as celebrating LAD bantz, probably why they're so successful, and the self-awareness and self-deprecation there is in the shows tends to undercut any criticism we might try to make of the LAD bantz element

Although basically, the shows are full of comic sexual misadventures, and a large chunk of their audiences then treat news reports of sexual assault as if they were about comic sexual misadventures
