American Idol Season 11 (2012) -- "That was beautiful..."

New season, new thread. Post stuff here.

Whitney/Stevie night, my half-attentive opinions, gals first:

Great: Skylar (nice way to put a country spin on Whitney, oodles of personality) and Hollie (better than Jessica last night imo.)

Good, but...: Jessica (kind of like this season's Thia: young, amazing skills for her age, but I just wasn't feelin' it) and Erika (kind of this season's Pia: big, powerful voice, needs to lighten up.)

Enh: Elise. This season's Haley? And like Haley, rough start. Shannon choked.

Guys:

Nobody was really great. Deandre and Joshua were fun, and I have a soft spot for Jermaine's throwback baritone soul. Everyone else, meh. Don't know what anyone except Dave Matthews fans could possibly see in Phil Phillips, but I think he's going to be extremely popular.

i tried to watch this for a few minutes last night, just couldn't. have switched to The Voice.

This show works much better for me just skimming through the clips on rickey.org

I'm surprised I'm really liking most of the singers this season. I thought Erika's "New York State Of Mind" was excellent; knew she was cannon fodder, but she could have stuck around a while. Happy Elise rallied, I thought she had a "moment" this week. Really disliking Phil Phillips more and more, though.

Steven Tyler asking Heejun if he was happy he took the piss out of Billy Joel was hilarious. That joker can gtfo imo.

I watched a bit of the performance show this week and agree that Philip Phillips is sooooo THE WORST. Heejun was ridiculous, but I get why he's still hanging around.

The only others I saw were Skyler who just seems like a cookie cutter young country person and Elise, who I'd probably never listen to outside of Idol but who KILLS IT DEAD in performances on the show (she's been in the bottom 3 up til now? madness!).

Yeah, I'm totally rooting for Elise!

Update since 3 weeks ago, if anyone is still watching:

Cannon fodder (Heejun, Deandre) left in about the order I figured they would. Elimination and save of Jessica was maybe the hokiest thing I've ever seen on this show.

Still disliking Phillip, and can now add Colton to that list (his rework of EWF's "September" makes Pomplamoose's seem brilliant.) I'm still not much warming up to either Jessica or Hollie, and Skyler's spunky but kind of shouty.

My favorites are Joshua (oversinger, but what a voice!) and Elise, aka judges' (and voters') punching bag.

I'll probably tune in for the finale tonight even though I haven't watched it at all other then the time I posted above. I hated Phillip then, so of course he made it to the final. I remember Jessica being good from a clip I saw somewhere, but I don't know if she's worth rooting for. I'll just be watching for the spectacle I guess.

Phillip Pihllips is basically a less entertaining version of Taylor Hicks

I kinda see Phillip as more Lee Dewyze than Taylor Hicks. Haven't been watching for a few weeks, don't care at all who wins, but yeah I'll probably catch some of the finale.

I watched part of the final 6 and was surprised by the overall talent level but Phillip was far and away the worst

This is so terrible. All of it. I guess the hardest choice the voters had this year was who to send home the fastest.

this was definitely the season when i finally tapped out. do not regret it in the slightest if that doofus actually made it to the final two.

I must have stopped watching before that happened.

In the waning minutes, and just before Aerosmith, who were truly horrible. Jessica had sung "And I'm Telling You..." before and it was pretty good, but duetting with Jennifer was completely nuts.
