According to Solent News and Photo Agency, this 3-week-old gray squirrel suffered bruising to her leg and was separated from her mother when she fell from a tree. The squirrel, named Violet, endured the ordeal when the branch that held her nest was cut down.
Fortunately, the couple cutting down the tree spotted Violet and immediately phoned the Wildlife Aid Foundation for advice on what to do. The foundation took Violet in and have been feeding her a special milk formula, similar to what her mother would have provided.
TODAY.com multimedia producer Mish Whalen hopes the little guy recuperates in a teeny-weeny animal hospital.

I hope we will get to see the baby squirrel walk using a tiny crutch, and do various recovery exercises with a tiny physical therpaist.

Couldn't they have made a camouflage cast? Now, the nuts will see him coming from miles away.

You trying to tell me squirrels don't have arms?
― ledge, Friday, 9 March 2012 11:40 (thirteen years ago)
Squirrels totally have arms. Otherwise how would they use nutcrackers?

My wife and I found a baby squirrel in a neighboring driveway last summer -- she actually heard it crying and we had to go search for it with a flashlight. It was so young it barely had any hair, and it appeared to have come from a tree that had been cut down. The mother or any siblings were nowhere to be seen. We took it into the house, gave it some towels to nest in for warmth, and nursed it as best we could with an eyedropper all night. The next morning we took it to a wildlife rescue/rehab nearby associated with the Cleveland Metroparks. It was severely dehydrated despite our efforts and had a touch of mange. Unfortunately, it didn't make it. RIP little squirrel :(
(Sorry for the buzzkill.)
