When I went to the prom I gave the hair stylist a picture of Barrymore's hair from Boys on the Side and told her I wanted to look like that. lol90s.

I don't remember For the Boys but Boys on the Side is the all-girls road trip one isn't it? Whereas Riding in Cars is about D Varrymore as a single mom--do I remember correctly?

It is the all-girls road trip one, yeah. It is complicated though because MLP has HIV and then she and Whoopi fall in love and and get lesbian married and there is a funny scene where Whoopi makes her say "cunt" and a touching one where they serenade each other with Roy Orbison. Meanwhile Barrymore is very kooky throughout. You are right about RiCwB as well iirc.

I remember whoopi being a lesbian/falling in love w MLP, but I had forgot about MLP being HIV+ or returning Whoopi's affections/marrying her. I totally went 'awww' irl after reading that tho...

LLB - I'm pretty sure BotS was an awful melodramatic schlockfest but I'm sort of a sucker for those kind of things sometimes. OK, often. I mean I must have watched it more than once if I remember as much of it as I seem to after not having seen it in at least a decade.

I remembered MLP having HIV and Whoopi being a lesbian, but I did not at all remember them falling in love or getting married.
