Visible signs of ageing part 1

People always think I look significantly younger than I really am. One of my theories for this is that I don't often shave (maybe once or twice a week). On the rare occasions when I've had to shave two days running my face feels awful, even if I put all kinds of nice lotions on it. Is it possible that scraping away with a blade every days helps make men look older than they otherwise would? Has anyone worn a beard for several years and then removed it to find that time has stood still for them?

**when I've had to shave two days running my face feels awful**

Try and do it standing still if you can. It might help.

I don't think this idea works, EK: I had a beard for many years, and I still looked pretty old when I got rid of it. Some people show it a lot less than others - and I think only part of this is physical.

I recommend some moisturiser after shaving, to stop your face feeling bad.

moisturiser after shaving

essential. I would look like Keith Richards if I didn't moisturise.

Ah, I use moisturiser after every shave. Still shaving too often makes me feel shit. Even if it's not a cure for ageing, I would recommend having a break from shaving whenever you can. If you leave it a few days (if you're using blades) you can get your chin much smoother. There were times in the past when I had to shave every day and it was never so smooth. Grow those hairs for a couple of days and they'll all come off. I shaved today for the first time since last Monday (8 days ago) and my cheeks are like when I was twelve or something. (If you leave it this long, though, the actual process of shaving isn't so much fun.)
