I have been looking for a job all summer, not really starting my intense hunt until yesterday. Last night, around 8 o' clock p.m., I e-mailed my resume to a few jobs I had seen advertised on monster.com. Yes, so I am used to this business and I didn't really expect a response right away. But, this morning I received a response--at 8:34 a.m. The message said that my resume had been "reviewed" and that they would like to interview me--and, that if I was still interested that I should call between 9:30 and 5 and schedule an appointment. Now, already I seemed a bit suspicious. By 8:34 a.m. my resume had already been reviewed? How? What? Wuh? So, then I decided I call this chick and see what the dilly is. First, I get some lame voicemail and I leave a stupid message. No one returns my call. I call again, a lady takes my message saying such-and-such is in a meeting but she will call me "RIGHT BACK." No call back. So... I wait a few hours and call again, and I get HUNG UP ON. I call again thinking it must have been a mistake. A secretary simply answers the phone by saying, "Hello?" and schedules an appointment for an interview. Now, I just think this seems shady. Is it just me, or does this process seem vastly unprofessional? I am starting to wonder what kind of company this is and whether or not I even want to go to the interview. So, what do you think? Am I reading into it too much?

It does seem a bit unprofessional, yes. However, if it had been me on the other end of the phone, you might not have been treated any better :) It sounds to me like a busy office with maybe problems allocating tasks or prioritising - maybe that's a reason they are hiring?
I wouldn't worry about the timing either. It could be a scam, but most likely, it was read through once, approved, and responded to straight away. If you are still worried, research them - phone them up and ask what they do, or check them out on the interweb. Almost all decent companies will have a presence - if it's clear and safe, then you'll probably be fine.
If the worst comes to the worst, you've made the effort. That's something to be happy about regardless of the result. I know, all too well, of the excuses you can make for yourself in this kind of situation, and although it sounds like uyou do have genuine grounds for concern, you really have to approach things positively. If they are scamsters, why not make the effort to get your own back afterwards?
