This show is funny and deserves its own thread.

future worm food (n/a), Monday, 26 March 2012 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

I love it so much.

I hope my DVR recorded it last night.

polyphonic, Monday, 26 March 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)

I need to remember to set this up for autorecording. Thankfully, I've got ondemand as a backup.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 26 March 2012 20:42 (thirteen years ago)

But anyway, YES! I love this show so much.

Everytime I think I've narrowed down my favorite kid, one of the other ones does something that makes him/her my favorite. Gene...Tina...Louise...I guess that's what it feels like to be a parent.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 26 March 2012 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

ha i forgot to watch this last week. so apparently 100 percent of this show's fans forget to watch it, based on our sample so far.

tina is the best.

future worm food (n/a), Monday, 26 March 2012 20:46 (thirteen years ago)

this show would work better and save a lot of animation costs by just filming the table reads.

Philip Nunez, Monday, 26 March 2012 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

I have never seen this show. Tell me why it's better than Family Guy.

Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Monday, 26 March 2012 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

It reminds me of Home Movies, for both obvious (Benjamin) and non-obvious reasons.

It is not like Family Guy at all.

polyphonic, Monday, 26 March 2012 21:29 (thirteen years ago)

it's nothing like family guy except that it's animated and on fox

future worm food (n/a), Monday, 26 March 2012 21:30 (thirteen years ago)

more character/dialogue-based, has occasional flights of fancy but nothing like the constant jumps to random pop culture references like in family guy

future worm food (n/a), Monday, 26 March 2012 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

now tell him why it's better than The Secret Circle

THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Monday, 26 March 2012 21:31 (thirteen years ago)

Because Cindi Lauper sang the ending theme last week

Spleen of Hearts (kingfish), Monday, 26 March 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)

ha i think i'm being preemptively defensive of loving this show. i think whiney was making fun of bob's burgers fans. anyways, the first episode of the new season (s2) is up on hulu and is probably a pretty good introduction to the show if anyone is interested in trying it.

future worm food (n/a), Monday, 26 March 2012 21:48 (thirteen years ago)

i like dis show

tylerw, Monday, 21 May 2012 03:42 (thirteen years ago)

Were these episodes simply the "back 9" after the original 13? Perhaps when it starts again this fall, we'll get 22 (or maybe another 13+9).

Johnny Fever, Monday, 21 May 2012 03:51 (thirteen years ago)

I need to buy this show on DVD, just for the commentary tracks.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 19 June 2012 05:08 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I think the kids are all equally great.

But my favorite character is probably Teddy.

the absurd specificity of that joke was somewhat ruined for me because i'm nerdy enough to know that that's what Latifah was dressed like in the "Ladies First" video, 3-4 years before the "U.N.I.T.Y." video, where she looked more like this:

I need a gif of that smile slowly disappearing from Millie's face while Louise yells at her.

They somehow made that girl truly frightening!

the Bronski Review (Trayce), Thursday, 12 December 2013 00:45 (twelve years ago)

Home ec episode was one of my favorites so far. Especially the compressed teacher-student struggle between Bob and Zeke. They do a really good job making this show seem ad libbed.

Vinnie, Thursday, 12 December 2013 14:35 (twelve years ago)

They record most of the v/o live with the whole cast in the booth so some of it might be, a little bit.

This is cool:

http://www.maximumfun.org/song-exploder/song-exploder-%E2%84%96-8-loren-bouchard

In addition to being the co-executive producer and showrunner, Loren also composed the show's opening theme. I interviewed Loren in his office, where his desk is surrounded by musical instruments. In this episode, he talks about which ones went into the theme, and the emotions he wanted to evoke with each of them.

One of the episode synopses for this season on the BB wiki simply says "Tina falls in love with a ghost." I'm already laughing at just the idea of this.

one of the weird indulgences of this show is that it posits that these children who were presumably born in the early 2000s are really into the pop-cultural touchstones of people who were teenagers in the 80s.

We started the movie last night, and it was fine, not bad at all. But at some point (that felt much closer to the end than to the beginning) we had to pause it and were shocked to learn that there were still 45 minutes left. So ... we bailed. Felt a little guilty, because this show is so charming and good, but I guess from our perspective it works much better in compact 22 minute form than as a feature, especially with a plot that didn't need the extra 80 (!) minutes.

fwiw the one-liner about coloring books on tape was one of the funniest throwaways I've ever heard, so it wasn't all a loss.
