Hey guys. Don't mean to seem like I'm spamming with a thing I put together, but I have been working on a comprehensive SNL Worst Cast Members tournament. It's a 64 person March Madness style bracket. We did a lot of preliminary research to get the initial seed rankings and broke it into 4 divisions.
The brackets look like this:http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t409/SNLWorst/SNLBRACKETScopy.jpg
You guys can vote on the individual matches at the following links (I broke it up into 4 links because the only free, clean looking survey site available limited it to 12 questions per survey -- again, I don't mean to bombard you with links):
Trace Morgan (East Division) Dick Ebersole (West Division) Phil Hartman (North Division) and Kevin Nealon (South Division).
And there's a facebook group here: http://www.facebook.com/WorstSnlCastMembersOfAllTime
Anyway, I've played some dummy games in person and it's been pretty fun to go through it.
Thanks.

what in the hell is wrong with you
― i don't believe in zimmerman (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:22 (thirteen years ago)
oh and ignore the names of the divisions, they're just based on people who weren't included in the matches.
― filthy dylan, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:23 (thirteen years ago)
This seems like a lot of work to get all the way down to the inevitable Chevy Chase victory.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:26 (thirteen years ago)
In previous matches Dennis Miller and Victoria Jackson have both won. Chevy Chase is usually out in the first round.
― filthy dylan, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:28 (thirteen years ago)
Seems reasonable, although I did like Miller around the time of his SNL career. He's wholly terrible now. As is Victoria Jackson.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
Miller was reliably funny on SNL and in his standup around that time. I accidentally heard part of his radio show not too long ago, and he was doing the exact same jokes he'd done twenty+ years earlier, with the same arcane references and everything. Maybe his right-wing conversion was because he completely ran out of material and decided to take it to an audience who hadn't heard it before.
― Dancing with Mr. T (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:33 (thirteen years ago)
According to that book Live from New York though, Chevy Chase is a pretty terrible person. I believe when he came back to host in the early 80's he made some kind of AIDS joke to Terry Sweeney (the first openly gay cast member).
I'd say in voting, mostly consider their SNL Career but some post-career has to count.
― filthy dylan, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:35 (thirteen years ago)
I think he is pretty close to being Pierce Hawthorne.
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:40 (thirteen years ago)
but pierce hawthorne is likeable!
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:42 (thirteen years ago)
Please stop with the brackets, world. They're really stupid.
And I might go with Jim Breuer.
― Woodsy The Allen (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:46 (thirteen years ago)
For some reason Jim Breuer's post SNL stand up career is surprisingly dependent on Norm MacDonald stories:

I never got Jim Bruer, like Zima his popularity in the 90s confused and perplexed me.
― Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)
95% of liking Jim Breuer I think was dependent upon how much pot you smoked. I've never liked pot, ergo I never got Jim Breuer.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 19:56 (thirteen years ago)
I loved Goat Boy, not gonna lie
― THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 20:14 (thirteen years ago)
Saw the first Goat Boy sketch recently and, as with the first instance of most endlessly repeated SNL bits (like the first Hans and Franz was funny, iirc?), it was actually okay. And then it became increasingly less okay with each iteration.

It's like using the same teabag over and over, basically.
― Woodsy The Allen (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 20:17 (thirteen years ago)
who would win best SNL cast member? Norm would walk that one, right?
― Estimate the percent chance that a whale has ever been to the moon? (frogbs), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 20:25 (thirteen years ago)
Norm would have a shot, but that's a crowded field.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 20:33 (thirteen years ago)
"Victoria" Bayer?
― Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 20:49 (thirteen years ago)
Ah shit, Vanessa Bayer. Sorry about that.
Also, it's important not to forget the 80's dark-ages cast members like Tim Kazurinsky from Police Academy. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xkwupi_saturday-night-live-tim-kazurinsky_fun
― filthy dylan, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:08 (thirteen years ago)
norm would lose to phil hartman by virtue of being still alive, not universally loved, and semi-republican.
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
but he'd clean up against everyone else in that category. (dennis miller, adam sandler, etc...)
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)
I guess it depends on how you phrase it - "Favorite SNL cast member" is a different question than "Favorite comedian who was on SNL"; Norm's unquestionably the latter but if you're just sounding SNL stuff, it's probably between Eddie Murphy and Phil Hartman for me
― Estimate the percent chance that a whale has ever been to the moon? (frogbs), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:38 (thirteen years ago)
i can see that distinction making a difference with someone like say chris rock, but norm pretty much was able to shine as norm during his stint, at least until they fired him.
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)
frogbs kinda otm about Norm. He's hilarious and one of my favorite people to have been on SNL, but his resistance to doing sketch work (although he had his share of classics) kinda knocks him off of the all-time best throne. DEFINITELY the best Weekend Update anchor, though. By far.
― Calvin Coolranch (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
i sort of don't understand what phil hartman is doing on a "worst" poll, unless i'm reading it wrong?
― ralphs vons williams (get bent), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, it's because NCAA brackets are the way we rank everything now. Because it makes a great deal of sense to do this with things that are not sports teams who are playing actual games against one another, is why. Or it might be because it's stupid and doesn't make sense and your confusion is completely understandable.
― Calvin Coolranch (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:10 (thirteen years ago)
Phil Hartman is the name of a division. He is not a competitor.
― filthy dylan, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:13 (thirteen years ago)
srsly do not get norm macdonald love (not that i think he's the worst)
― althea and (donna rouge), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:14 (thirteen years ago)
basically Norm is the Adam Carolla it's okay to like
― THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:16 (thirteen years ago)

DEFINITELY the best Weekend Update anchor, though. By far

Norm Macdonald is the pitch of deadpan delivery.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:22 (thirteen years ago)
lol I don't even remember Brian Doyle-Murray as Weekend Update anchor
― THIS TRADE SERVES ZERO FOOTBALL PURPOSE (DJP), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:23 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, as it's tangentially related to the thread title: I have the SNL board game, and I played it once and only once because everyone agreed that it was the worst.
― Calvin Coolranch (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

iirc, BDM was one of a number of rotating anchors around that time period. I feel like they went through over half a dozen anchors during the time Lorne was gone.
― Calvin Coolranch (Deric W. Haircare), Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:25 (thirteen years ago)
"DEFINITELY the best Weekend Update anchor, though."he's the funniest for sure, but nealon was quietly the best anchor that wasn't an anti-anchor.
― Philip Nunez, Tuesday, 27 March 2012 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
lol @ filthy dylan prejudicing the results
