Distant Voices, Still Lives may be my favourite film of all time, so that.

Blue Collar Retail Assistant (Dwight Yorke), Saturday, 31 March 2012 08:33 (thirteen years ago)

morbs list matches mine; kmt over shaun of the dead, control, four weddings and a funeral, and the english patient being here but no topsy turvy.

Missing the War Zone which is a better "Ray Winstone would make a terrible husband" movie than NBM or SB IMO (also a rare movie that is so far and away better than the book it's almost remarkable that they share a title.) Also Boyle's never topped Shallow Grave in my book.

The big commercial successes (Trainspotting, Shaun, Four Weddings, English Patient) seem quite out of places amidst the rest of the gritty slice of life dramas. Haven't seen it in 20 years, but I have fond memories of Hope and Glory so I think I'll vote for that. All the usual suspects mentioned so far (Hunger, Naked, Ratcatcher, Red Road, Nil By Mouth) are quite good though and it's hard to separate them for me.
