somebody breeding mutant peaches with no pit. they scare me very much and i don't plan on eating one. what's so bad about a regular old peach??

ron (ron), Thursday, 12 September 2002 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

plus they got nothin on donut bitches!

ron (ron), Thursday, 12 September 2002 04:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I appreciate a sweet finish in my tree fruit. I'll eat one.

According to some, the flavour has a hint of almond.

rainy, Thursday, 12 September 2002 05:24 (twenty-three years ago)

In Australia they’re known as 'saucer peaches'.

ron - yeah, I live in Georgia where there's peaches everywhere so when I see these donut peaches in the grocery store I think "damn, they must be pretty good if we're importing them". Pure hype - it's the Phantom Menace of fruit.

Has anyone else encountered chilled custard-filled doughnuts? Morrisons in Leeds used to sell them, treacherous to eat but totally addictive. They were then inexplicably withdrawn as a health-risk. Never seen them before or since.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 12 September 2002 08:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I've had plenty of custard filled doughnuts. Are chilled ones just those that have been put in the fridge or are they something distinct?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 12 September 2002 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Thankyou Nick, for some inexplicable reason I find the fact someone else has eaten custard filled doughnuts strangely comforting.

They were chilled simply because they were always kept in the fridge. Do they still exist? Never saw them in Glasgow.

stevo (stevo), Thursday, 12 September 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I never thought of them as anything very unusual, but then I don't often go into bakeries to check, so I'm not sure.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 12 September 2002 13:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I am always popping into bakeries to check on the quality of their stock and I can say that custard filled doughnuts are entirely normal though perhaps not as widespread as jammy ones. Bagelmania sell 'cola donuts' which sound absolutely foul. Sickos.

I suppose they have some value for their genetic diversity from standard commercial peaches -- but I'm sure not going to pay the extra money for them.

This just in from Dr Fox courtesy of Heat magazine (talking about Kate Lawler of BB3 semi-fame): 'She's really ballsy, funny and fit. If I was on Pop Idol I'd say I'd bitten the doughnut and it was full of cream'.

Obviously this sentence makes no sense at all but nonetheless it stands as testimony to the popularity of the cream filled doughnut.

Emma, Thursday, 12 September 2002 13:38 (twenty-three years ago)

At work they had donuts filled with melted chocolate, they were quite nice though often you'd bite them and a jet of chocolate would fly on your clothes.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 September 2002 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

NUM NUM.

When I was a kid we used to get Dunstable Doughnuts which were just normal doughnuts (no jam / cream / chocolate /cola) with tons of cinnamon. I am not sure if any other parts of the country call these Dunstable doughnuts or if Geo. Ort the baker was just having a laugh. Anyway they are by far the nicest thing to come from Dunstable.

I love them. They usually are always good, unlike regular peaches which are hit and miss.

In my experience they have tasted exactly like regular peaches.

Regular peaches are a little more tart, I actually like regular ones better. These are sweeter, sometime a little too sweet for me.

Wow, this actually sounds nice: I think I've talked on here before about how I feel like peaches are this horrible gamble and leap into the unknown, and how "do I dare to eat a peach" is weighty on whole other levels

i feel compelled to post. i love peaches but i hate the fuzzy rind. i like nectarines, they are solid.
