Sad but unsurprised Love & Death and Sweet and Lowdown didn't make it.
Old School is funnier than all of the Farrelly/Ferrell/Napoleon Dynamite/Apatow movies combined
I don't know why I didn't put Wedding Crashers in my top 10.

Half of my ballot made it, so I'm happy. I'm sad about the absence of The Great Muppet Caper (HUGELY underrated) and I'm baffled by the absence of The Man With Two Brains (which I guess can be chalked up to much fewer people seeing it than The Jerk).

My ballot is in the order of points given, i.e. I only gave Addicted to Love 3 points. I like most of Harry Met Sally a lot, but I find its ultimate answer to the "Can men and women be just friends?" dilemma so disappointing (according to the movie they can't) that I can't really vote for it.

well i guess i'm a sucker for horror comedy/parody (note that my ballot also includes Dead Alive, Shaun Of The Dead, Addams Family Values, Young Frankenstein, etc.) and Black Sheep is just one of those little known movies i've gotten very evangelical about, because it was one of those rare "oh this has a funny premise, let's watch it" rentals that actually turned out to be really funny and entertaining imo.
― ferrante's inferranteno (some dude), Thursday, 5 April 2012 01:17 (thirteen years ago)
also really need to see more of the Ealings.
my partner's been trying to get me to watch Ball of Fire
@etc: I'm a pretty big Stanwyck stan (ha), and if you are too, you shouldn't hesitate (you may in fact die during the Gene Krupa "Drum Boogie" sequence). that said, it's generally not as beloved as say Bringing Up Baby. Having just seen Design for Living though, I think I'd like Ball of Fire even more now: it turns out Gary Cooper is both weirdly attractive and funny. there's a bunch on your list I need to check out, like all of your bollywood picks--I should have nominated the original Don, that movie is hilarious.

Midnight is a 1939 romantic comedy (with some elements of screwball comedy) directed by Mitchell Leisen and written by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder based on a story by Edwin Justus Mayer and Franz Schulz.[1] It starred Claudette Colbert, Don Ameche and John Barrymore.
okay, I really need to see that too.

Midnight is amazing despite starring Don Ameche. If you're a Barrymore or Mary Astor fan, this movie does as much for their comedy chops as Twentieth Century (which almost made my ballot) and The Palm Beach Story do.

Big <3 for everyone who voted for Gremlins 2! The moment where the film "jams" and goes into TV static (or burns and goes into white screen in the cinema version), only for the Gremlins to appear and play shadow puppets is on of my favourite moments in the history of cinema. I remember me and my friends totally fell for it the first time we saw the movie; we were all like "OH NO, did the video break up?!", only to burst into hysterical laughter afterwards.

It's cool, dude. Although, following your logic, why would I have any keener an idea who Gene Wilder was (aside from being the dude who starred in Haunted Honeymoon?
(Also, I'd argue that a list of favored comedy films isn't necessarily terribly indicative of one's cultural radar.)
