Can work be fun? (losing my mind)

Office planning is what I have been doing all day. I have drawn outlines of our new floor space, and cut out little book shelves and desks etc. to find the best possible layout! It's fun!

I have also placed a load of slide binders on the floor to mark out the size of our new walk in cupboard (also known as my hiding place where I think I shall look out the window and read books)...

Do you have fun at work? (ever)

I wanna change the title of this thread.

Imagine work without the internet.

*shiver*

It's rare, but yes, occasionally I have experienced combinations of creative, interesting work and agreeable working situations that have added up to fun.

WOT you mean a bonk on the photocopier??

Sarah (starry), Thursday, 12 September 2002 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Mention that in your interview, Starry. You'll be sure to get the job (and possibly a "raise" hem hem).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 12 September 2002 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Mentioning is enough? But I could do that.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 12 September 2002 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, but remember don't photocopy your ass and then put the print out in the Leyton-Smyth file!

On Sundays when my Mean Boss takes her day off, and her easy-going brother is in charge, and I'm working with someone who talks about interesting stuff, rather then just asking me about college, YES it CAN be fun. But all other days of the week are a living hell. I work in a newsagents btw.

Twenty Marlboro Lights please, and a packet of red rizlas.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Friday, 13 September 2002 09:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I am having fun now: I am posting to ILX! :-) But yes, I do have fun at work.

nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 13 September 2002 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Not much now (though my job is reasonably interesting) but I used to be a comic book editor. That was fun lots of the time.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 13 September 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Work can't be fun, no sir. My forthcoming Underworld piece talks about my feelings on work.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 13 September 2002 19:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Underworld and fun can't be in the same sentence unless you also include the words: "shouting CRAP CRAP CRAP".

nathalie (nathalie), Friday, 13 September 2002 21:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Work as a concept is not inherently opposed to fun as a concept. "work at a petrol station" probably is, though.

Hey Martin, have you seen this mini-plea from John Smith?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 16 September 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, I have seen that, Andrew. I certainly kept nothing remotely like this after leaving the company. I saw this after googling my name the first time: this was less interesting than discovering that I am sensei of the Imperial Shotokan Karate School! Scary!
