Dr. Pavlov and Me

I'm not sure why anyone here would care, but I have a mild peculiarity. Eating any food that is "hot" as in spicy causes my scalp to sweat. Even quite moderate amounts of capsaicin or black pepper can cause enough drippage that sweat trickles in drops off my nose and down my neck. This doesn't stop me from eating or enjoying spicy-hot food, but it does make a trip to a Thai restarurant an occasion for much discreet mopping.

But the most interesting part of this (to me) is that the mere thought of eating something hot, for example sriracha, is enough to get my scalp damp. Having just now written that sentence, I can distinctly feel a drop forming on the crown of my head.

discus plz

I'm not a doctor, but I believe it means you are going to die somewhere during the next 200 years.

(stops, sits down, composes self)

I suppose what I was really wondering is whether anyone else displays this same ultra-sensitivity to capsaicin/black pepper, or if I am doomed to be a freak of nature, shunned by all right-thinking people, pointed out on the street and laughed at behind my back?

Ideally, this would be a question for Abbbottt, whose counsel on such matters is legendary on ilx, but since I've already asked it here, it is too late to move to the Ask Abbbottt thread. (sighs)

You were running around screaming for almost a whole day? Blimey.

I hear Abbbottt has a rather visceral reaction to the smell of distilled water and scentless deodorant.

I was rather upset. But I got over it.
