itt i will post the wealth of quality leftovers I have after having made the screencap images for The Haunt Of Fear: ILX Top 100 HORROR Movies Poll Results Thread

When collecting the images I used for source material (using GIS or scrolling through film frames), I cast a wide net so I could have a lot of JPEGs etc. immediately on hand when I made the final designs - so there is plenty to post.

During the first couple weeks of ballot submission, I wanted to get a head start on some of films that seemed like sure bets for placement. Here are some initial contenders that ended up falling (lol in some cases quite far) outside the final list. These were done w/ a Photoshop template I ended up simplifying and otherwise altering before the final series, but for the purpose of posting here, I did go back & plug in the conclusive data for each of these.

great work, pillbox! haxan, blue velvet, phase IV and day of the dead cards are especially great.

i do recommend event horizon, btw. the deep space special effects are surprisingly good, and the production design is flat-out spectacular. the interior of the ship is one of my all-time favorite "haunted house" sets. despite a very silly story and some iffy performances (sam neil at his most weirdly robotic), it's atmospheric, gruesome and scary as hell.

I love movie posters in languages other than my own. I have a Polish Godzilla poster and a Turkish Carrie poster. I agree that the Polish Alien poster is fantastic.

while it wasn't all that o_O to chance upon things like Alien-themed action figures and trading cards, I did think it was kinds strange that many (if not most) of the Alien-themed products were aimed at little kids. 've been editing, cropping and posting these images for several weeks now &, given the sheer quantity of material I'd previously amassed for the horror poll, adhering to the same chronology as the poll itself was an easy organizational decision itt - so aside from being a showcase for the caps and such, this has also served as a loose reprisal of Eric H's noble data-tallying efforts. But here's the thing: this is not the horror poll, so I bear no obligation to honor The Shining with some sort of grand finale display. In fact, I'm going to straight up just say fuck a shining. I enjoy/revere/etc TS (flawed as it is) & I did include it on my ballot. Still, how superfluous would it be for me to post a bunch of also-ran screencaps of krazy jack chasing shrill mousy, when I already contributed ten sterling examples of perfect cinematographic symmetry to the poll proper? OK yeah Kubrick visionary perfectionist genius sure (can't really call challops tbph) - but b/c he was what he was, every frame and angle of the The Shining's photography has been dissected, contemplated and digested by anyone w/ a passing interest in The Cinematic Portrayal of Interior Space - and what's the fun in rehashing shit like that for something like this?

Okay, I think I managed to work out that the Italian title of TCM means literally "do not open the/that door", but wasn't sure about "aprite" so went to google translate. Which was no bloody help at all, as it translated it as "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"!

lol I maxed out like three or four flickr accounts just trying to get them all in one place I could link them from. That aspect of the process was pretty makeshift and haphazard, and I've been meaning to place them in a more organized & navigable format (a Wordpress template, most likely). I'll have quite a bit of free time in the weeks to come, actually, so I might as well make that shit happen.
