meatball pho

chinese donuts
regular donuts
pretzels

I have dreams of opening a soup restaurant. soup food cart would be 2nd best because I have specific ideas about my soup restaurant & the interior & stuff but if that didn't work out then I would serve soup from a cart. the cart is called underrated soups which is probably a poor business decision on my part.

sweetbreads

Euler, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:51 (thirteen years ago)

appropriately rated soups

indian rope trick (remy bean), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:51 (thirteen years ago)

a guy down the street opened up a vegan soup place in a hole in the wall. its called soup. he looks like a billy goat.

scott seward, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

vegan tacos, probably

thomp, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

rice & beans - cup or bowl, choice of rices/bean varying on different days but always available are yellow/white (rice) & red/black (beans) maybe chick peas too

(REAL NAME) (m coleman), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

I can't say I cook anything well enough that I'd open a food cart to sell it. I don't think there's many cookie carts out there.

Respectfully, Tyrese Gibson (Nicole), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

wait I'm cooking this? what about hiring recent immigrants

(REAL NAME) (m coleman), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:56 (thirteen years ago)

rice & beans/vegan tacos ftw, i think because something about cheap & filling feels ideal as well as appealing. used to go to a jamaican food cart that did porridge every morning w/a different addition - plantain, honey, w/e, & you could do the same thing with daily rice & bean variations.

blossom smulch (schlump), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

I will patronize m coleman's & thomp's food carts 4-5x week

decrepit but free (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like no one has really stepped up to the original post tho

thomp, Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

xxpost sounds great! the jamaican trick of cooking beans ("peas") w/coconut milk would be my secret weapon.

(REAL NAME) (m coleman), Thursday, 7 June 2012 14:59 (thirteen years ago)

curried billy goats plus handjobs in the back if you have the right groupon

dell (del), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

soups beginning with c (available by the cup only):

chili; chowder; cheeseburger

authentic flatbread & filling mix and match station:

injera, tortilla, pita;
falafel, beans and rice, doner kebab, daily wat

dessert nachos. dessert pizza. dessert seven layer dip.

thomp, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

daily wat, aw hell yeah that would be great some lil ol injera wraps

dell (del), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

I think maybe my cart is called Simple Soups. like a lot of food carts around here really have an angle, like dolled up grilled cheese stuff - which has a plain grilled cheese, but the main thing is more "I hadn't thought of that" stuff like the grilled cheese w/avocado (which is amazing btw) but my cart will have like
--split pea soup
--carrot bisque
--lentil soup
--tomato soup

so the menu looks totally underwhelming but then when you taste my tomato soup you are like HOLY FUCKING CHRIST I HAVE FOUND RELIGION TOMATO SOUP IS AWESOME THANK YOU BASED AEROSMITH.

decrepit but free (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

if you have vegan chili i am there.

scott seward, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

maybe on Fridays we loosen up and serve this vegan chili sin carne I'm eating today which I made night before last & is kind of a molé chile and is incredibly delicious and good

lol, x-post!!!

decrepit but free (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

it's from Isa Chandra's Vegan with a Vengeance cookbook btw & it was easy to make and the leftovers are even better than they were on day 1

decrepit but free (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

yeah lots of soup better after a day or two. really excited about the farm share we are splitting with a friend. gonna totally soup it up this summer.

scott seward, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

my menu would take clues from "Feel Good Hit of the Summer"

WHEY AHR MAH DREGUNS? (DJP), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

I would sell specially repurposed versions of frozen burritos from 7-11. they would be partially thawed, treated with a dry rub of paul prudhomme's magic cajun seasoning and some brown nutrasweet, and then carved into the perfect dipping shape for a fondue setup using movie theater nacho cheese sauce and/or melted coconut m&m's + sriracha

also something i like to call the Spamometer.

dell (del), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

savory "gogurts" constructed around a base of cream chipped beef and applesauce that you suck up with a straw dusted in garlic powder or garlic sauce. and maybe some edible necklaces made from raisin bran

dell (del), Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:50 (thirteen years ago)

isa chandra and her 'just whip up a batch of the p3 seitan' recipes bug me

when i sleep tonight i will dream of chana masala tamales

horseshoe, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:16 (thirteen years ago)

I would go with an offal-inspired menu.

haggis
head cheese
calf brains
kidney pie
sheep's liver
beef heart
tongue sandwichs
prairie oysters

...in this way I would not be troubled with too many customers and could spend my lunchtimes kicking back and chilling out.

Aimless, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:19 (thirteen years ago)

༼◍ྀ ౪ ◍ི ༽ (cozen), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

I was actually talking at the weekend about doing this for a living (I may have been a bit drunk).

Sausages
Cake
Whatever else I think of the day before

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

Definitely beer. Preferably brewed in the cart. Somebody please help me figure out how to get a license for this in the US.

epistantophus, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:31 (thirteen years ago)

aldo if you can combine sausage + cake that would be a thing

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

1) Take one Twinkie(tm) and slice in half lengthwise.
2) Insert sausage.
3) As condiments, offer: jam, honey, applesauce.

Aimless, Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

do u sell insulin injections too?

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

artisanal hot dog water

dell (del), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:43 (thirteen years ago)

Is the water itself artesianal (or from an artesianal well) or were the hot dogs that were cooked in it?

indian rope trick (remy bean), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:49 (thirteen years ago)

he should carry both, good for business

he bit me (it felt like a diss) (m bison), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure I can make sausage and cake work. I just need to think about it.

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 17:57 (thirteen years ago)

if the cake was cornbread I'd vote you up for a congressional medal

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)

hot dogs served in water reused for 3 weeks. "soft" pretzles that shatter on impact if you throw them on the ground. all food will be served on a grill with a swarm of flies buzzing around as a permanent fixture.

Spectrum, Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

Well every cornbread I've ever tried has tasted like Madeira cake, so not much of a stretch.

I made some pork and pineapple sausages with jerk seasoning before, I could see them working with that. Otherwise I was thinking maybe a light pork breakfast sausage with carrot cake and chili cream cheese.

That said, pork and apples are good together so maybe the same sausages with a dense apple cake with lots of ginger.

Venison and chocolate is pretty classic, but that's more bitter than sweet. Pork might be the only option.

Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

I have a good slightly sweetened cornbread recipe that does not taste like madeira cake

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 7 June 2012 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

anything with the word "artisan" in front of it

Darin, Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

artisan cheez whiz

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:09 (thirteen years ago)

in Portland, anything with "artisan" + old timey font + 18th century imagery = assload of morons waiting in line

Darin, Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

omg artisanal font truck

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

can I open a truck called FRENCH POLISH

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 7 June 2012 19:52 (thirteen years ago)

Of course, despite contributing to this , outside of London it is only burger vans that also do bacon/sausage/egg baps.
