Sweet And Salty: greatest underrated flavour combination of our age or dud?

So i'm eating a late night snack of sweet-flavour-topped toast, and i just got the strange taste combination of slight saltiness and sweetness and remembered how UTTERLY BRILLIANT and great it is! Chocolate-dipped pretzel crackers and Pocky have to be some of the greatest snax0r food ever invented. Why doesn't it turn up more often? Am i onto something or have i finally lost it completely?

My bedroom is decorated with Pretzel Flipz wrappers. So shiny, so melty, so lovely.

Graham (graham), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I love the taste that comes when you eat something chocolatey then salt n vinegar chips. The leftover taste of the chocolate mixes with the salt n vinegar and tastes wonderful.

Gee, Pretzel Flips... do they still make them? They owned for about three months, and then vanished from our local stores. Like Cadbury's Astros and Salt and Vinegar KP Nuts.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:19 (twenty-three years ago)

mixed sweet and salt popcorn at the movies = classic.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:20 (twenty-three years ago)

What are Pretzel Flips? And can we eat them?

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, though possibly not anymore. Chocolate covered pretzels.

The white chocolate ones were better, though.

mark s (mark s), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Astros were fantastic. I've tried biscuit m and ms but it's just not as good.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:28 (twenty-three years ago)

My wrappers are landscape format (what a stunning idea), therefore I win,

Graham (graham), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Astros! Cor I'd forgotten about those too, how poor of me.

Mmm Pretzel Flipz - I GORGED upon those one day wandering round Manchester, as HUGE GANGS of SURLY YOOFS were employed to hand out loads of freebie packets. We stuffed our bags, pockets and also faces and were in Pretzel Flipz for weeks. This was a grebt as I obv wasn't going to buy them myself ha ha.

Mmmmm, nummy. They still make them eh?

Sarah (starry), Monday, 16 September 2002 11:52 (twenty-three years ago)

pretzel flips, they're deffo very yummy, but i can't eat them since i saw the stinkpalm scene from Mallrats. you understand, no?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 16 September 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Butter pecan ice cream...mmmmm. And I've heard of some types of licorice that are coated with salt.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 16 September 2002 15:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Flipz are awesome, indeed. The only way they could be better is if they came with that chocolate river shown on the bag.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 16 September 2002 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Ohdeargod I... I can't make the requisite comment. Dang the Bad Mang to thread!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Monday, 16 September 2002 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The Peanut Butter Flips are the best!! But stay far,far away from the white chocolate covered carmel corn, its like eating staight spoonfulls of sugar and salt.

brg30 (brg30), Monday, 16 September 2002 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And...the margarita.

Rufus King, Tuesday, 17 September 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a packet of "Sweet and Sour" crisps today and they were surprisingly yummy.

Shaz, Tuesday, 17 September 2002 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

mixed sweet and salt popcorn at the movies = classic.

You would love Garrett's Popcorn in Chicago. They will sell you a mixed bag of their safety yellow-colored, finger-staining cheese corn and ultra buttery caramel corn. When it's still warm, there is no better sweet/salty snack.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

last night i watched someone put salt on their watermelon

ron (ron), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

salty liquorice is dud. Especially the small round ones with DZ (double the salt) on them. Beware of Dutch bearing gifts.

isadora, Wednesday, 18 September 2002 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

yum, dropeez! (I don't know the actual name/spelling; they're known by lots of things and the various types) but I knew them as "droppies/dropeez" (never saw the name written down) 'cause we had dutch friends when I was little.
