NEW YORK — Painter and sketch artist LeRoy Neiman, best known for evoking the kinetic energy of the world's biggest sporting and leisure events with bright quick strokes, died Wednesday at age 91.

Neiman was the official painter of five Olympiads and was a contributing artist at Playboy magazine for many years. His longtime publicist, Gail Parenteau, confirmed his death at a Manhattan hospital on Wednesday but didn't disclose the cause.

Bingo, I always think of Studs when I hear Neiman's name.

Never liked this guy's style, but I did just see an exhibit of his at the Mohammed Ali Museum in Louisville.

My dad's got some Leroy Neimans.

I think it was mandatory to own a Neiman, a sports car with FM radio and the album Silk Degrees if you were a divorced father of two in 1980.

i'm guessing leroy had some "fun" in his life.

That ain't the hair and mustache of someone who liked to live small.

Wonder what goes through Hef's degenerated mind when he sees a picture like that and then goes to the window only to see Bill Mahr making his way up the circular driveway?

He probably feels similar to how Little Steven sometimes feels when he looks around at the rest of the E Street Band and wonders why he's the only one left wearing a hat.

If you grew up reading Playboy--the articles, the articles! (oldest joke in the book)--you know his work well.

He did a lot of baseball stuff, too.

a friend and I were badmouthing him at a Mets game last month! I think he mentioned that the prize for being Mets' MVP one year was a portrait done by L.N.
