At a time when nontraditional families have become more common, and when even the Romneys watch "Modern Family," a popular sitcom that centers on unconventional family arrangements, the Romney brood stands out. Mitt and Ann Romney have been married for more than 40 years.

But next summer, the lakefront estate could be the Wolfeboro White House. Surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Romney said he and his wife woke up that morning and marveled.

"We looked at each other," Romney said, "and said, `Oh, gosh, our love really started something, didn't it?'"

A 40-year marriage is something to be commended, and this might be a notable story if Romney were running against Nelson Rockefeller or Rudy Giuliani. But the Obamas are pretty solid in this department too.

i can't help but read 'nontraditional-' as "all ungodly variations upon-" marriage, here, rather than just a reference to divorced couples or w/e.

It's hard to know what they mean by that--I try not to assume the worst, so I'll go with "traditional" is any marriage that involves at least one person who still says "gosh."

Couldn't stand him, and this doesn't help. He said barely a word about the party when he had the debate floor--a little bit here and there--but now he decides to speak up when his gesture will register with absolutely nobody.

When you are worth $300 million (give or take), you can afford as traditional a family as you like. It will be a well-dressed, well-fed, well-doctored, well-educated, well-groomed traditional family. But what is traditional about being worth $300 million?

He did what he could with the time he had in the debates, but probably on got called on to speak two or three times at each event. Also, GOP primary voters/audiences aren't gonna be receptive to anything he has to say.
