It's only just been pointed out to me that randomly posting the pics i see on b3ta is a drain on the bandwith of the wonderful creators. i have often copied some of my faves to my own free sites and never seen a dent on the bandwidth allowance.

What do you reckon? I think the drain on bandwidth from B3TA prob puts the drain from ILX in the shade somewhat, but they seem quite insistent.

If they don't want it to happen, why don't they just block it?

If you have the capacity to host it on your own free space without any negative effects, and if it keeps them happy, then it doesn't seem unreasonable.

Are you sure they think your / our posting of them to little ILx is that big a deal though?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 12:56 (twenty-three years ago)

well there was a lot of thanking of the guy that pointed them at a how-to on .htaccess files, so it's obv some sort of deal to them. it's just that bit more of an arse to copy the image to my site, then copy/paste the new url, when all i do is copy the image ref and paste in.

i'm trying to persuade myself that the bandwidth drain due to ILXor pales into comparison with that straight from b3ta. and you all KNOW that's where i get all this stuff from, right?

shows they are serious. blocked images, and replaced others. ha ha. ahem.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

But why don't they just do a global block a la Yahoo et al.?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

well i guess they are. but it's not like they all use the same server, they're just individuals, and prob many of them use the freebie sites like i do. if you can find a free site that allows image hosting at all, you have little/no access to .htaccess files on them.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 17 September 2002 13:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I thought they were all on b3ta.com.

MSN (I know, evil, devils spawn etc) allow image hosting (3mb) and external links. Why not just set up an ILXOR group over there and link pics to that?
It's what I did for this (shameless excuse to repost)
