AS for the OG question, the more you see these type of patterns, the more you will be predetermined to act a certain way. go have a drink and forget about it...

Alex, I'm the idiot who is concerned about this stuff, not the person I'm dating, though actually she's pretty interested as well.
I always wanted to discuss astrology (in general) on ILE, but now it doesn't look like a promising topic. I will have to check the archives.

Many years back I read a very good book by Linda Goodman called "Love Signs". I found it to be surprisingly accurate in terms of character typing according to astrological sign. Mostly though, I consider the field of astrology to be pure entertainment. There are so many different factors that can make or break a relationship -- I wouldn't worry near as much about astrological compatibility as I would about compatibility in areas of sex, money, religion, children, career, sense of humour, etc.

Capricorn is symbolized by the Goat. You're motivated, determined and practical. You see no need to take unnecessary risks. Career is a major concern for you; advancement and recognition are alluring concepts. You are ambitious and strong, but also somewhat conservative.
It's an amazing coincidence that this could easily describe me.
I have read up on my astrological sign mainly for fun, though. Astrology.com is fantastic for finding out more information about your sign. Most of what I read ends up applying very well to me, but some of the things I read are so laughably wrong I have to shake my head. It's all fun, though. Hmmm. What are my so-called "compatible signs"? I'd like to know just because I'm curious.

No it's not all "fun," not really "fun" at all. There's a lot of depth to the original science of esoteric astrology as it was practiced in one form or another in all of the ancient cultures, a lot of which is missing in its present Western incarnation, degenerated as it has into dumbed-down Sun Sigh brouhaha that uses modern psychology, instead of spiritual/astral realities, as its basis [in an unconscious attempt to win validation from the modern scientific establishment]. ::rolling eyes Perhaps using the tropical instead of the sidereal zodiac does make a great difference, as well as the woman's-magazining of occult truth that has become so prevalent in the past century, I suppose. I'm sorry, but one is never going to learn anything about synastry from Cosmo, despite what the "astrologer" scribbles in there.
"It's never a question of belief; the only scientific attitude one can take on any subject is whether it's true. The law of gravitation worked as efficiently before Newton as after him. The cosmos would be fairly chaotic if its laws couldn't operate without the sanction of human belief. "Charlatans have brought the stellar science to its present state of disrepute. Astrology is too vast, both mathematically [1] and philosophically, to be rightly grasped except by men of profound understanding. If ignoramuses misread the heavens, and see there a scrawl instead of a script, that's to be expected in this imperfect world. One shouldn't dismiss the wisdom with the 'wise.' "
- Sri Yukteswar, in Autobiography of a Yogi

if you're at all into astrology, you've got to do a full-on synastry reading (both partners' complete chart wheels).

My grandfather was actually an astrologer in the sense that he could do a full chart and explain it (the novelty of having a grandfather that would dimiss my idiosyncracies with 'yeah whatever, she's an Aquarius and you thought it would be easy?' while gutting minnows for fishing or something was not lost on me). He thought it was useful in a glancing kind of way.

Most babies stay inside the first couple of months. And do you think it has a huge impact on their personality? I doubt it. It's still too passive.
