Warehousing the elderly: proof of moral decline, or good way to save on incontinence pads?

Luckily, I come from a long line of indestructible, cantankerous fuckers who smoked and drank their way into their nineties, without ever wandering down the street in their bathrobes, or setting the house on fire by confusing Burner 4 on the gas cooker with channel 4 on the TV. (Except for the alcoholic ones, but that's another story). However, most people are not so fortunate. So, since we're all fated to become toothless dribblers unless we die early, what's the take on stashing them in nursing homes? Best place for people unable to take care of themselves, or a sign of our callous overaccelerated society?

Also, is it possible to defend those people who get caught having sex with pensioners in these places on the grounds that old people deserve sexual fulfillment as well?

I'm for the Logan's Run system. I have a pact with a girl at school that if we live to 75 we'll Zimmer each other off Beachy Head. Renew! Renw! Renew!

those people who get caught having sex with pensioners

You speak like this is an everyday occurence?

Look on the bright side: When you're old and decrepit and a waste of everyone's space & time and have nothing left to offer or to lose then nobody minds at all if you get pilled up every day. I look forward to it.

It's long been my intention to spend my 'twilight years' smashed out of my fucking skull on any substances that come to hand. Why endanger your health when you're young and there's plenty you can do without drugs? Why not wait until reality is so dreadful that the downside of heroin addiction looks like fun?

This is what Straight Edge is all abt. I hit 80 with the liver of a 21-year-old, and start doing E like there was no tomorrow.

I've got it all planned out.

It depends on the nursing home, really. Some (a lot? most?) are just awful. But last year, my grandmother, who was 92, found she couldn't walk on her own anymore and checked herself into a home in town that had a decent reputation. We were all upset about it, until we saw that it was actually a decent and attentive place. She liked it there. She lucked out, though. But she was actually still pretty independent and wouldn't have wanted us to spend all of our time taking care of her. She was no toothless dribbler, though - she just couldn't walk. She was mentally alert until about the last week of her life. Even people who take care of their loved ones at home end up hiring someone.

I do think old people are generally treated like shit, in the U.S. at least.

I suspect that most ILE regulars are actually pensioners, seeing as I post every chance I get and am still not on the stats cock. Who else but old people have the time to post this much?

People with two brains, one for work and one for posting.
The idea of nursing homes terrify me, I will die before I get put in one, and I mean that. There's nothing wrong with sharing accomodation, but in a home you don't get to choose your housemates.

Blimey, who on this beeotch has been using their brane for posting?

I was planning on just dying young, but the drugs idea is good, too.
