all this talk of pints is making me thirsty. do any of the dublin ilXers want to meet up for a pint next week?

angela (angela), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I would if... sob... I still lived there. Oh sweetest towne of my homeland etc.

nickie (nickie), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey! I have just seen a FREE FLIGHTS to Dubling thing.

Perhaps I could come!

Nice Dublingers, could I come and stay over?

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:42 (twenty-three years ago)

And yes, I may well insist on calling yr fair city Dubling hahahaha.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Ange - what night are you thinking of?

I envisage being very busy many nights next week. I am very important, you see.

maybe thursday would be a good night. We could go to popular club Screamadelica afterwards. I hear that Screamadelica is v. rub but it does have Peepee or Pony from the Chalets DJing that night. Or if we went out boozing at the weekend we could go to top club Helter Shelter afterwards.

or maybe all this talk of clubs is spoiling the real point of FAPs, which is BOOZING.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha maybe not then because the website advertising the flights for no pence in rubbish oh well sorry The Fair City of Dublin and the Craic and stuff.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

we may still be able to have fun without you.

this FAP is just going to be me, Angela, Andrew, and Irene, isn't it? that's not an ILXFAP, that's just people who see each other all the time seeing each other.

such is Dublin.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

YEAH RIGHT!

OK fair enough.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or it might be me and DV and Angela and Irene and Mark discussing house prices and People We Know, and also Killian sitting in a corner.

I obviously have very little faith in my friends.

Starry - If you come over, there's a sofa/floor for you.

DV - are you not off to Parts Foreign weekend after next?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

both thursday + screamadelica, and weekend + helter shelter sound great. lets go with saturday and helter shelter so as not to have the spectre of friday morning hanging over us. though, d'oh, will it clash with the banjo weekend in longford? what date is helter shelter next on?

do come sarah, if not this time then another.

angela (angela), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

''that's just people who see each other all the time seeing each other.''

sounds as if you need new ppl at these dublin FAP things: you can fly some of us londoners in (since london is sooo expensive that we can't afford it DO YOU SEE!!) :-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe some lurkers will come along. dublin lurkers, please come. and there's ronan, he's in dublin isn't he?

angela (angela), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

you Londoners - Dublin is so cheap that you could probably afford to fly here, go out boozing, stay in a *** hotel, and then fly back for the cost of a curry in Brick Lane.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly this != the case! However the FREE FLIGHT thing is mightily tempting (if the website wd work yah boo sux). But I wouldn't be able to come over till October anyway. I would certainly demand a Fancy A Pint. If Ronan goes you must rename it Fitzy A Pint!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot Ronan, for I am a Spa. And anyone else. Lurkers, we're looking at you here.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Starry, which website?

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm something of a lurker and live in dublin...i might head along,i'll keep an eye on this thread and see what the story is...

robin (robin), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Ryanair Tim - I'm liking the look of a long weekend, Oct 4th to 6th, or maybe the weekend after that... warning, their site is ATROCIOUS right now. Can I have a sofa? I can even bring Spacestation Pongo (but do meerkats need passports)?

Come to think of it, I need a passport...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah robin!

i've checked and helter shelter is next on on 28th. it does clash with banjos in longford, but i must ask myself which is more likely to happen; that i'll organise travel to and accomodation in longford for something i'm not even sure about, or that i'll go to helter shelter where i've had fun before and from which i can walk home in 30 mins.

angela (angela), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

DV is lying through his teeth about Dublin being cheap.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

he is you know. but what with sterling being so strong against the euro it might just come out normal for you british folk.

angela (angela), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah - it's about the same as London at the moment when it comes to going out. A lot more than Glasgow, tho.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

It would be great (though this is one of DV's IWBGs) if the London Posse came over for a weekend, and dragged us out to the sort of places that only British stag and hen parties go to.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

that would not in any sense be great.

although it may be the kind of WIBG that I sometimes come out with.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 15:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Thursday next week would be good, can't do Saturday week cos Plump DJs are playing (Andrew you going to this?), though I could pop in shortly beforehand for pints.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

urgh, I have this terrible No Free Time feeling. but I will make an effort to come to this FAP. whenever it is. yes.

Robin, does anyone know what you look like? anyone likely to be at the FAP, I mean? if not we will have to have CALL SIGNS.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

If a Thursday then Neuromantik is obviously an option.

Are we talking Thursday 19th or 26th?

tigerclawskank, Thursday, 19 September 2002 07:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I hear that whoever it is that takes complaints about Airline advertising has stopped taking complaints about Ryanair as they received more complaints about them than all other airlines put together.

Their free or cheap flights are always loaded with conditions and the taxes still have to be paid. And probably the booking fee as well - but they can be the cheapest option.

tigerclawskank, Thursday, 19 September 2002 07:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't mix FAPping with Neuromantek, there will be too many non-FAPpers present.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 19 September 2002 08:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't Helter Shelter a Sunday event? no-one knows anything.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 19 September 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Helter Shelter is always on Saturdays. I think.

I think all this talk of clubs is steering the FAP away from the true meaning of FAP - pints. in a pub. if people want to go to clubs they can go afterwards.

anyone got any pubs in mind? to make it a proper FAP it shouldn't just be somewhere our gang go all the time. so maybe somewhere like The Brazen Head - a bit away from the city centre, but a genuinely nice pub, and the oldest in Dublin. only tourists go there so it shouldn't be too full.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 19 September 2002 11:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Sean O'Caseys!

(not really)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 19 September 2002 11:18 (twenty-three years ago)

dv-
no-one would know what i look like, but i'm sure if i'm heading along something could be sorted out...

robin (robin), Thursday, 19 September 2002 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

ie. hats

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 19 September 2002 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

It's more crack if we all have to be carrying the NME or something. this worked well when I had to meet a load of Sinister types in Belfast.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 19 September 2002 21:13 (twenty-three years ago)

by the way, for FAP purposes my name is not Dirty Vicar but Ian.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 19 September 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe we could call you Dirt to be all matey like.

tigerclawskank, Friday, 20 September 2002 07:41 (twenty-three years ago)

how about next thursday (26th) in the lord edward at 8.30? and if we end up going on to screamedelica grand, but this way we'll satisfy DV's wise "pints. in a pub" criteria (except that i've choosen a pub we go to sometimes anyway).

angela (angela), Friday, 20 September 2002 08:27 (twenty-three years ago)

FAK beforehand, tasty meat on a stick from Zaytoon?

Actually I might not be free that night.

tigerclawskank, Friday, 20 September 2002 10:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm beginning to think I might not be free that night either. on the one hand, I love to FAP. but on the other, very few free nights before I fly away.

DV (dirtyvicar), Friday, 20 September 2002 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

given that two of our already small number probably can't make it maybe we should postpone till the vicar and the claw return from foreign lands. then we can FAP in our secret underground hideout along with other dublin ilxers the mandible, the box and acid reflux.

angela (angela), Monday, 23 September 2002 08:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Just fire the bat light into the sky and let us know.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 23 September 2002 09:48 (twenty-three years ago)

so sarah will be over between the 10th and 15th of october. how about a FAP in the lord edward on saturday 12th?

angela (angela), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

This sounds like a plan. It's bare days after the ILM FAP, but I don't think that anyone from around here is allergic to the pub.

Well, I am, but that just strengthens the case. If I'm willing to endure the pub twice, can you do any less?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I can make it. I may have to zip off circa 11 or so or I may not if there's nothing on.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh! Yes! That's me! I'll come!

Heh despite barely knowing where 'the city of Dublin' is, never mind location of aforesaid boozer :) I shall need to be escorted! Wahey! Booze! Perhaps we should have a Dublin Trig Brother (not enough people though chiz)!! Will there be leprechauns/craic etc?

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh! And my passport arrived today! Hee! I'm going on my holidays! I'm going to see meerkats!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Craic has ruined the Leprechaun community, it's no laughing matter.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Meerkats and craic.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

i think sarah's getting into dublin today. so are we all still on for the FAP on saturday? say upstairs in the lord edward from 8.30?

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 08:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 10 October 2002 08:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Gah I can't do Saturday, best friends 21st, will Sarah be in the pub any other evening, or is there an alternative. If not don't worry, I don't want to mess people around.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 October 2002 08:05 (twenty-three years ago)

i dunno, what about sunday? it would be fairly easy for me to swop around 'night i'm going to pub' with 'night i'm going to remove viruses from my mother's PC'.

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 08:11 (twenty-three years ago)

That'd be cool, but if it suits people more on Saturday then don't change on my account....

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 October 2002 08:15 (twenty-three years ago)

andrew, how are you fixed? is sarah still going to be here on sunday? and robin are you still planning on coming along?

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 08:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't mind seeing some of you *in the flesh* if new-comers are tolerated?

Is there a definite meeting place? How will I recognise you? I shall be carrying a copy of Prufrock.

Lara, Thursday, 10 October 2002 09:09 (twenty-three years ago)

lara, it would be great to meet you. i think the place is pretty much decided (upstairs in the lord edward pub (do you know it?)), it just the day that's still uncertain, ie, saturday or sunday.

as to how you will recognise people, hmm, i face the same thing myself as andrew is the only one coming that i know. i've got curly dark hair and glasses and can have some book or newspaper with me if you like.

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 09:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Angela - I know the Lord Edward well. And come to think of it, I may have a recollection of you if you are the same Angela who went out with xxx, xxx and is good friends with xxx??

Are we talking meeting during the day at the weekend or in the evening? I'm not around on Saturday (Bling Bling in Chaplins and Monkey Tennis in the Thomas House) but if it's happening on Sunday, count me in.

[names removed at Angela's request - moderator]

Lara, Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

i deny everything.

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 10:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey a moderator race! I lost!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 10 October 2002 11:25 (twenty-three years ago)

you came a valiant second though.

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 11:47 (twenty-three years ago)

WHAT HAVE I DONE??

*Sensitive* information, eh? I didn't realise. Will make sure that you get one of the comfy seats in the LE and not one of those hard-backed wooden ones. And I'll ask them to stoke up the fire if it's cold.

So, is Sunday a runner (promise not to bring xxx, xxx or xxx with me (or up in conversation)....

Lara, Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Time for a spanner: I can easily do Sunday, but I'd rather it be in Viva on Sth William St., where a friend of mine is starting a club. A quiet enough for talking club, rather than total bangingness.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Viva can be done. My boss's friend owns he place .

What's the club Andrew? I've never known Viva to be quiet (except maybe directly after lunch on Tuesday).

Lara, Thursday, 10 October 2002 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

the club's called crash. viva on sunday is fine with me. just as well the DV won't be around to complain that we're subverting the true meaning of FAP.

it wasn't exacly secret information lara but who knows, perhaps they'd object to any googler being able to find out that they went out with me :)

angela (angela), Thursday, 10 October 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Right - I'm on for Sunday in Viva.

And Angela - could they be anything but PROUD? Then again I wouldn't want many of my exes finding present day references to them either. There are a couple I could cope with making contact with again, but hey, let's save the interesting stuff for Sunday....

Lara, Thursday, 10 October 2002 13:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan won't object. Not if he knows what's good for him.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 10 October 2002 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha ILX in Viva! For Crash! Perfect.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 10 October 2002 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

so we've got a day, we've got a place, what time? when does crash start?

angela (angela), Friday, 11 October 2002 06:51 (twenty-three years ago)

about 8ish, but judging by last week it's a slow start. That said, it's a small enough place. I'll probably be there at the start, and I have someone to talk to, so that's that.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 11 October 2002 08:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be in early too as I'm meeting people in town in the afternoon. So, physical descriptions please?

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 08:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan looks like a teddy bear.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 October 2002 09:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Will be be wearing a spotted bow-tie and matching socks then?

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 09:34 (twenty-three years ago)

An E-generation teddy bear from the landed gentry.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 October 2002 09:40 (twenty-three years ago)

ie. spotted bow-tie and ill-matching socks.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 October 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

So, I'm looking for a drugged up, spotty-tie wearing west Brit?

Ronan - defend yourself against my imagination!

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 09:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Ill-matching socks? What know you of Lord Henry?

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 09:47 (twenty-three years ago)

My appearance abused by Aphex Nick, ha!

I don't know what I'll be wearing, it depends what's clean. I'll be with Andrew probably, who is the key to everyone meeting each other. However I am short with blonde spikey hair, I'll be the one who looks way younger than Andrew and everyone else. I think my friend is going to join us also.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 October 2002 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be the one looking younger than my actual age. You're sure to spot me.

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

A quiet enough for talking club, rather than total bangingness

Andrew you forgot to say "but we'll see what we can do".

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 11 October 2002 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Will it be just the four of us then (and the usual glam/funky Viva crew)?

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

and sarah, who's visit is the main reason why we're meeting up this weekend.

angela (angela), Friday, 11 October 2002 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Excellent - looking forward to meeting the *real* Andrew, Ronan, Angela and Sarah...

Lara, Friday, 11 October 2002 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I ended up giving the second bag of chips to the taxi driver as they started to disintegrate in my lap. Anyone else up and out yet?

Good to meet you all. AGAIN. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.

I hope our Midori swilling, cheesy garlic fries chomping English friend had a pleasant evening....

Lara, Monday, 14 October 2002 06:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sorry I wasn't more sociable, I hadn't seen my very good friend S in about 2 weeks and I had to talk about dance music with him. I don't feel the best really, hard weekend, and last night I was meant to have 1 or 2 drinks and it turned into a bit more than that. (also N's description on this thread was very useful)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:34 (twenty-three years ago)

sorry for wimping out of the fap guys but after a hassle filled weekend i wasn't fit for anything more strenuous than falling alseep on the sofa (which i duly did). glad to hear a good time was had by all.

angela (angela), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I hadn't seen my very good friend S in about 2 weeks and I had to talk about dance music with him.

Worst excuse ever?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't stand your never-ending bullying.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:50 (twenty-three years ago)

he's not hard Ronan, punch him.

chris (chris), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder if Sarah taped the Meerkats documentary that was on BBC2 last night?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah he isn't hard actually, I stand by my excuse.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I wonder if Sarah taped the Meerkats documentary that was on BBC2 last night?
They were rats!

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 14 October 2002 08:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Sarah is in fact considering a return to Dublin Zoo this afternoon, after having been on Saturday with Andrew when he NEGLECTED TO SHOW HERE THE MEERKATS.

And, fact-hounds, she saw the documentary. And cried I think. (Andrew confirm?)

Lara, Monday, 14 October 2002 09:28 (twenty-three years ago)

HERE = HER

Lara, Monday, 14 October 2002 09:33 (twenty-three years ago)

They're NOT rats, they're fucking meerkats. And they were great. We stumbled onto it during channel hopping and watched it all. The suggestion that Sarah cried during the bit when the scrappy meerkat got bit by the snake and started to go all wobbly then all sleepy is as unsubstantiated as it is true, etc.

We came too late to the zoo, is all. We had to stop off and get food, which proved to be a double mistake when the food later disagreed in a serious way with Sarah.

Someone should make Roman-style foodie tours of gastronomically great cities in that manner: "And now we visit Il Trappadore Del Crittici, and then a quick visit to the nearby vomitorium and off to AbraKebabra."

And the FAP was great. Sarah wasn't as put out by the tiny size of the world as Lara was. Though Sarah had a mini-sinister get together to compare and contrast etc.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 October 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought you were talking about Mr Trebus.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew I wasn't put out. Promise.

You have to admit it was a bit weird to find out that we had so many friends in common? And when I started telling you the story about the guy I'd met on Hawkins Street, who turned out to have been you(!)...

*shiver*

Lara, Monday, 14 October 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Result of the night => I am an urban legend!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 14 October 2002 10:53 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
This seemed like an appropriate thread to resurrect. Any Dubliners up for a pint some night this week? I'd hate to have to drink all by myself. Unfortunately, I guess Andrew has absconded off to merry Old Englande, but hopefully others are around? I may just have to go see "Devil and Daniel Johnston" over at the IFI.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 15:23 (twenty years ago)

My girlfriend is currently traveling in your fair city. Any recommendations of where she should go (Food/show/drink, etc.)?

John Justen (johnjusten), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Oh wait Nate, you are in town now? I can't do pints this week, I am fucked for time with course-work. Lara is probably your only hope.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I'm here till Saturday morning. Too bad you're busy. :-( The "Devil and Daniel Johnston" movie was pretty interesting - I'd never actually listened to his music before - but what a life story he has.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 18 May 2006 08:05 (twenty years ago)

seventeen years pass...

H! I'm here!
