this is from late '70s nyc. i was just reminded that it existed; now all the trauma is coming back.

Tupelo's NBC affiliate has a country/gospel/chat/community announcements show that dates back to 1957 (Weds. nights), took a long break, and then restarted in 1978 every weekday morning at 6. The hosts were a couple named Buddy and Kay Bain. (Buddy was a Corinth deejay who'd done a bit of A&R work with the Rock n Roll Trio.) Buddy died in 1997 and Kay kept the daily show going for a while, but she's old as the hills and it's back to once a week, Saturday mornings at 6.
1980 in full swing with Buddy and Kay: http://youtu.be/3nGCNjXRU5o2010, Kay solo: http://youtu.be/NMM4Ci-PcN4Buddy Bain and "Kay Wayne," single on Meteor Records from early '56, "Can We Live It Down": http://youtu.be/vpVSOguiljo

I tried to scrounge up some video of Heck Harper's local kiddie show, or that all time classic: Portland Wrestling live from the Portland Armory. These both appeared on KPTV, the same channel that famously showed Perry Mason reruns daily from noon to 1pm for about 35 consecutive years.

Oh man not childhood but there was a stripper lady who had a show on NYC public access that we used to watch in college. She was totally nuts.

Paul Dixon's show ran on DuMont for a few years in the early Fifties. I gather that it centered more around lip-syncing than comedy at that time. (The first network show still exists, but it doesn't seem to be on either Youtube or archive.org.)

i was gonna say that, growing up in the middle of NJ during the late 1970s/early 1980s, we really didn't have any locally broadcast TV shows (except the local shows from either NYC or Philly). but then i remembered Uncle Floyd, though sadly there isn't an awful lot of him on Youtube -- but here's a small taste:

Looks like WOW! broadcast out of DC, but the station must've had some range because I remember watching it in Virginia Beach.
Now I have to wrack my brains for more stuff. One of the few instances where living a million different places as a kid might have some utility.

This one always amused me because my mother was acquainted with the co-host Marilyn Turner and would talk about what a bitch she was. Yet my mom still watched it every day.

When I was a kid, this guy literally sat in front of the camera overnight and talked and read books, as if he told the station: hey, I'll get the lights and lock up when I'm done.
