I don't even really know how to discuss this, it's just on and makes me furious.

I mean freedom of speech and all but when hannity uses this as an excuse to say that if people saw Obama rob a bank and shoot the tellers, obama voters would be behind it because of robbing the rich to give to the poor, I just fucking boil over. That's bit a metaphor btw, I just watched that shit spew out of his mouth.
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 25 August 2012 04:22 (twelve years ago)
Ahem "not a metaphor" btw

Small business owner that when asked about how his business is going says "well, up and down"
Minister that claims to be a party line democrat and then says that he hates gay marriage
Guy who claims to be a construction worker and the after hannity talks about he was a construction worker and is still friends with a bunch of his construction worker friends admits that he is an av installer
A bunch of crazy assholes that are saying other dumb shit
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 25 August 2012 04:51 (twelve years ago)

― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 25 August 2012 04:52 (twelve years ago)
As a fellow small business owner, "up and down" pretty much sounds like uh being a small business owner you fucking dolt
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Saturday, 25 August 2012 04:55 (twelve years ago)
"so you are out of a job, how long has that been going on?"

halfway through dinner tonight an older couple sat down at the table next to us and started loudly complaining about 'asshole-bama' and 'his muslim friends' and how they're out to 'destroy the united states.' small restaurant, too, so everyone basically got to listen to this. took a lot of self-restraint not to flip them off when we left.
― (The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Saturday, 25 August 2012 05:46 (twelve years ago)
Self-restraint is underrated
― Lil Swayne of Pie (DJP), Saturday, 25 August 2012 12:54 (twelve years ago)
Oops I meant overrated
I've had that happen once, the loud asshat complaining about the evil president like he is king of the restaurant, surrounded by guests even stupider than he is who just nodded and listened. It's like, what can you do? Saying "Stop making fun of the President!" seems as lame and un-American as making fun of the president.

― Doctor Casino, Saturday, 25 August 2012 13:08 (twelve years ago)
I have no problem eating when people are being stupid. Otherwise, I could not go out to eat in America. Or eat with my family, half the time.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 25 August 2012 13:18 (twelve years ago)
you can get a lot of mileage out of strangers you don't like by just offering them a handshake, making firm eye contact, and saying "I worship the devil" in a low voice once you're squeezing

Does this work at all on message boards? I listened to Hannity every day in the car driving home from work during the '08 campaign. His special kind of insidiousness was quite compelling.
― clemenza, Saturday, 25 August 2012 14:17 (twelve years ago)
he is the one of whom I can take the least, because he's the most realistic - the one who feels like an actual person in the world
― steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 25 August 2012 14:54 (twelve years ago)
Maybe? I think he seems the most unabashed sock-ish of the lot, like he's not even trying. Glenn Beck probably captured the crazy that is America the best. O'Reilly is the one who most reminds me of relatives, a smug guy who backs up his arguments with half-facts. Like the dude on my block who wrote a letter to the local paper complaining about wind power killing birds, specifically blad eagles, literally in the sentence after complaining about the band on DDT, which would have saved millions of lives in Africa ... and yet killed bald eagles.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 25 August 2012 15:58 (twelve years ago)
Ban on DDT, sorry.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 25 August 2012 15:59 (twelve years ago)

That's what I meant by insidious--unlike Limbaugh or Levin, he doesn't start ranting and raving. (As it got near the end in '08, when it was pretty clear that Obama was going to win, he'd sometimes go off.) He says things like "Let not your heart be troubled." He veers off in 20 directions at once, constantly interrupting himself ("Meanwhile...") with insinuations and made-up stuff, but does so in a way that's so casual and conversational that your head is left spinning. Levin was an entertaining cartoon, Hannity I found quite despicable.
― clemenza, Saturday, 25 August 2012 16:30 (twelve years ago)
hannity is the dumbest of them all, which makes him the 'least bad' in some ways
― iatee, Saturday, 25 August 2012 16:57 (twelve years ago)
josh otm i think? i don't know it's like thinking about republican leadership & trying to decide who is objectively worse between, say, on one side, people like santorum and cantor, who just kinda look like they do not have the brain geography to think outside of the limits of their ideologies, who aren't necessarily being disingenuous but who are honouring a callous, shortsighted logic; or otoh boehner & romney, who you can imagine existing & talking way more placidly IRL but who are all the more contemptible for cynically yielding to & exploiting gross ideological tactics. how sure of himself hannity is, how unwilling to process oppositional information, or to charitably think instead of reflexively leap, is just so difficult to watch.

i listen to him on the way home from work a lot lately because i love to torture myself. he has this weirdly hypnotic cadence. everything he says is very simple and just tiny little logical leaps like one tiny lie flowing into the next so if you are stupid you can't question how he came to that conclusion. like he just talked so much, what happened? then when people call in and are like "you lie about stuff all the time" he's like "oh yeah? name one thing i've lied about!" also that thing he does when he plays audio of a democrat speaking and he makes annoying whiny sound effects over it.
