Enjoying food keenly and appreciating it with both knowlege and nuance doesn't seem so bad to me, as long as this enjoyment doesn't get all mixed up with one's ego. Feeling superior to anyone else because you know the difference between forty kinds of olive oil and they do not is the worst kind of rubbishy self-aggrandizment.
