Worst cast member of Saturday Night Live's 6th season

Because I just made the egregious mistake of watching a few episodes of the Jean Doumanian era of SNL and found them to be every bit as lame as legend has it, anyone wanna take a pop at just who was the worst of the bunch?

Robin Duke, Tim Kazurinsky, Eddie Murphy and Joe Piscopo were all great

I have zero memory of Gilbert Gottfried as an SNL castmember

6th season you mean?

da croupier, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)

Denny Dillon is a very funny lady, but I don't remember her making much of an impact on SNL.

a shark with a rippling six pack (Phil D.), Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:48 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry to have to be Mr. Pedant, but this is the sixth season you're talking about.

And the answer is Denny Dillon. My favorite is Gail Matthius, who's one of my more favored SNL-ers period and who really deserved a better career.

in voting one must be mindful of the difference between bad and non-entity.

Aimless, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

doumanian season /= 3rd season. it is however very definitely the worst season of snl. piscopo, sadly, probably the second best cast member up there (in the context of snl at least, outside of snl i'll take kazurinsky and gottfried), you could make an argument that robin duke was better i guess. anyhow i'm voting charles rocket. there might be other performers up there who were just as bad and unmemorable but they weren't promoted like the second coming of chevy chase.

balls, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:51 (thirteen years ago)

another thing that's esp awful about this season is that for most of it they barely used eddie murphy (that would change) and behind the scenes were pretty openly racist and patronizing to him, using him as an errand boy, etc.

balls, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:53 (thirteen years ago)

in favor of more charles rocket

balls, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

Mr. Pedant here again. It's important to note that Robin Duke, Tim Kazurinsky, and Tony Rosato were only in the final episode of season 6.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

I think it has to be Rocket, someone who had to say "fuck" on live tv in order to be remembered by anybody.

The Jesus and Mary Lizard (WmC), Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

Also, I'd contest the "worst season ever" albatross this season's been saddled with (although not terribly vehemently) because seasons 11 (Lorne's first season back, just before Hartman and Co. started) and 20 (the "Saturday Night Dead?" season, just before Ferrell and Co. started) also exist.

Charles Rocket really wasn't bad at all.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 20 September 2012 19:58 (thirteen years ago)

It's definitely not Charles Rocket for me.

oh shit, I didn't know about that.

I remember college humor-mag peers calling this "the Denny Dillon year."

This was the first I ever saw of Gottfried; as with other performers in this cast, it's hard to blame them cuz the writing was so weak.

kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:01 (thirteen years ago)

by final episode ebersol had taken over. ebersol era was the first snl i really knew, i remember loving it at the time but outside of a few big classic sketches it really hasn't held up. this is hilarious and amazingly cruel - http://www.hulu.com/watch/271485.

balls, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

lol at franken's 'then danny and john left. them, them we missed.' w/ chevy sitting right next to him.

balls, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

the saturday night dead year is a definite mess but has some great moments and i think alot (not most mind you) of its bad rep is due to having to follow that great carvey-hartman era cast. obv odenkirk, smigel, and o'brien had were long gone by that time also. the anthony michael hall year is by and large garbage though.

balls, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:08 (thirteen years ago)

Ugh, that 85-86 season was rough, but "That Black Girl" was always great (and of course, the Replacements).

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, Danitra Vance (RIP) was talented. SNL needs more people with a dramatic background/bent nowadays.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:38 (thirteen years ago)

The correct answer is Ann Risley.

Although really this terrible season isn't the cast's fault. These people are each pretty talented. It's the writing that's brutal.

Panaïs Pnin (The Yellow Kid), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:45 (thirteen years ago)

Ann Risley is the only one I can't conjure up any memory of. The name, the face, what she did, nothing. I know non-entity =/= bad, but...

The specifics are these, which is those principles I described (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

nonentity > Charles Rocket

(he was on Moonlighting, yes? as Willis's brother?)

kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

aside from piscopomurphygottfried i have zero clue who any of these ppl are. no showbiz historian, i.

goole, Thursday, 20 September 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)

Tony Rosato seemed reasonably funny in his one year on SCTV, but SNL just had him play one Italian "a-spicy meatballa" character after another. Embarrassing.

Robin Duke also seen to much better advantage on SCTV. She has a small part in Groundhog Day as the coffee shop waitress.

He could've done a good Malkmus if he'd been born 15 years later.

Yeah honestly I only voted Risley cause even after looking her up I still can't remember her at all.

Panaïs Pnin (The Yellow Kid), Thursday, 20 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

I remember hearing somewhere that Gottfried avoided bringing any good material to SNL because he was trying to save it for his stand-up act, and regrets not trying harder while he was there ... or something along those lines. Can't remember where I heard that.

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Thursday, 20 September 2012 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

Gottfried didn't have his "persona" in place on the show then - the only thing I remember him doing was playing Roman Polanski in a Chap-stik commercial.

Faster than food (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 20 September 2012 21:26 (thirteen years ago)

whoa... charles rocket died. and he killed himself by slashing his own throat!

Hungry4Ass, Friday, 21 September 2012 04:04 (thirteen years ago)

he was on Max Headroom, I believe.

akm, Friday, 21 September 2012 04:10 (thirteen years ago)

I don't remember Ann Risley
I thought rocket was funnier than the others but this season was garbage
The next season was funnier but it was the Murphy/piscopo show

buzza, Friday, 21 September 2012 05:00 (thirteen years ago)

anyone who votes charles rocket is a monster

not because he killed himself, but because he was a tiny beacon of funny in this mess

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 21 September 2012 05:24 (thirteen years ago)

Not voting because the cast was not to blame for this. Watched it all as a kid. Lots of kink.

Pete Scholtes, Friday, 21 September 2012 18:57 (thirteen years ago)

Later in his career Rocket would lend his accordion talents to the David Byrne-produced B-52's album Mesopotamia.[4]

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 21 September 2012 19:08 (thirteen years ago)

Rocket was a better Weekend Update host than the unspeakable Dennis Miller

xps sorry was away for a few days - yes, 6th season, don't know what i was thinking!

Tony Rosato seemed reasonably funny in his one year on SCTV, but SNL just had him play one Italian "a-spicy meatballa" character after another. Embarrassing.

his sketch in the final episode of season 6 is just this, and appalling. though not as appalling as the lame irena cara lampoon that's very sub-Mad.
