What is the hat's origin?
― The Most Typical and Popular Girl Rider (Crabbits), Monday, 1 October 2012 18:43 (thirteen years ago)
It is Orcadian! They like their crazy knitting styles up in those remote Scottish islands. More Free-Style than the Fair Isle but similar sort of thing.
(I got an absolutely amazing Orcadian style knitted waistcoat in psychedelic purple, blue, green and yellow, too, while I was up there, which is pretty fantastic Scottish Island home-knitting but that is not in that pic, obviously.)
― Sexy Data Scientist (White Chocolate Cheesecake), Monday, 1 October 2012 18:44 (thirteen years ago)
Is that what you call something from the Orkneys? I didn't realize! That is one of the places I most want to visit in the whole world. The hat is great, WCC.

I used to be really good at skeet shooting, it's one of those things that I think about how my life would be drastically different if I had gotten way into it and turned into like a pro skeet shooter or something.
I could have big endorsement money for special yellow glasses or a low-budget syndicated TV show or something right now.

I signed up with Central Casting soon after I got laid off from work and it's a decent way to pick up a few bucks. It's better than sitting around at home and brooding, the chow is good, and there's enough down time in between set-ups to work on some freelance coding projects. It's also really fun to just watch the activity - especially during the pseudo-improv bits.
I sorta lucked out on the P&R gig as they were casting for a wide-range of ages in that scene. Over half of the jobs that come up are for "hot looking 20-30 year olds" (their words) for the demographic soaps like 90210, Revenge, etc. and relatively few for an aging hacker/musician/record collector. Doing it full-time would be very difficult as you're always competing against someone who's convinced that extra work is their personal gateway to being a movie star.
Feel free to be jealous of Plaza proximity, but the most o_0 moment for me was when Lawless arrived on set. Again I say o_0.
― Elvis Telecom, Friday, 26 October 2012 23:08 (twelve years ago)
I have three broken Farfisa Compact reverb units in my garage. I was hoping to Voltron them into one working one, but it just made everything worse. Volume control is buggered up too, my volume choices are either "faint 60 cycle hum" or "ACTIVATE SAN ANDREAS FAULT NOW!"
Break Farfisa talk out into another thread? Feel like I need a support group to deal with it.
