This whole thing:
On Monday, one day after the musical’s bizarre demise, many other major players in the show — including investors and actors — were consulting lawyers about protecting themselves financially and pursuing possible legal action. In an interview Mr. Russo, a longtime criminal defense lawyer, said that Mr. Sprecher’s computer might have been hacked and confidential e-mails stolen “as part of some kind of plot to scare off investors and doom the show.” He said that Mr. Sprecher had turned over hundreds of e-mails to investigators. But Mr. Russo declined requests for several pieces of corroborating information that might shed light on one of the most troubled productions in recent Broadway history. The musical, a gothic mystery based on the Daphne du Maurier novel, was a hit in Europe but untested in the United States. It had been in limbo since the show’s major investor, a man named Paul Abrams who was expected to bring in $4.5 million, died from malaria in London in August. No evidence of Mr. Abrams’s existence or death has surfaced and been independently corroborated.

It's such a bizarre story, which I guess is fitting for Rebecca. I love the book and the movie, but I can't really see it working as a musical.

Shitty for those involved, but I don't at all mind being spared the inevitable Phillida Lloyd/Tom Hooper/Adam Shankman film adaptation.
