Sport. Got stuck at one of 2 tables people sat at from my course on Monday night and the rest of the table proceeded to talk about hurling.
I sat there thinking it was rude to leave, for several minutes, then got up and moved to other table and instantly found conversation interesting.

Does mean I'm less fit than I should be probably though. Used to dance quite frequently until I moved too far out of town to get home easily from wahtever clubs

Stevolende, Thursday, 4 October 2012 11:46 (thirteen years ago)

I think I have a thing in my brain that just tunes out sport talk the moment it happens. If sport comes up in conversation or on telly all I hear is "blahblahblahblah" MAybe if I didn't have this handy cerebral device I might learn something, but sadly it's there to stay.

Posted elsewhere about this, but the cost for SLS/Artemis could fund an entire fleet of robots orbiting every planet in the solar system, a couple of asteroids, and still have money leftover to fund a couple of space telescopes (and hire someone like me to be part of the staff)

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 7 April 2026 14:26 (three weeks ago)

just the launch cost two billion dollars... not counting the rocket, the mission, etc... just the launch itself

Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 7 April 2026 17:10 (three weeks ago)

Two billion that wasn't spent on bombs or kidnappings. Sounds good to me.

Vast Halo, Wednesday, 15 April 2026 19:05 (two weeks ago)

I can't say I 'don't care' about that entire avenue of discourse, because I just feel this exhausted feeling: why can't a good band that is having their glow-up moment just be enjoyed without fine-tooth combing the backstory of their ascent? (See also AdP, who I've read some castigating discourse from Quebec jammers who are skeptical of their sudden popularity). I like when good music gets popular, feels nice and fills me with optimism, feels good for a moment for me to feel aligned in-terms-of-taste with a broader slice of humanity (instead of feeling ambivalent/non-plussed by an inexplicably popular new act from whose work I derive no personal joy). The investigations feel, from where I'm sitting, that they are not pursued out of any sense of justice or public interest, but are intrusive and motivated by a bitterness that certain individuals feel when confronted with the sudden successes of others

Boards of Canada promo posters. I dearly love BoC and their aesthetics, and would blind buy a hypothetical new album, but at this point I can’t muster enthusiasm around a marketing campaign for just about anything, much less one designed to lure me in through esoteric hints and speculation. If news of a new BoC album doesn’t excite me, I don’t think I could any album by any artist can, but I suppose that’s just where I’m at.

it's funny that before I started on antidepressants, the list of things I didn't care about was basically everything. or more like, I cared about everything, but the non-stop anxiety meant that the caring was like a wall of noise I had to block out. I used to watch the saddest things I could, just to try to wring some feelings out of myself. it's the cliche that these pills put you in a level, unemotional state, but I've found completely the opposite, I can have feelings now, like "happy" or "sad" and they are connected to things that happen in ways I can comprehend, this has been revelatory because I do not remember ever being able to grasp why I'm feeling a particular emotion, and if something upsets me I can deal with it rather than it overwhelming me. I have wondered when reading this thread, do people really not care or are they depressed? if the latter then fine, seems like a natural reaction to the world tbh, but I just feel like it's worth thinking about.

anyway, I don't care about The Masked Dancer.

I find geese to be annoying pests that shit all over the park, but the goslings are cute for a week or two before they enter the awkward stage

Andy the Grasshopper, Wednesday, 15 April 2026 23:49 (two weeks ago)

There's a giant bird's nest - I mean giant; it's the size of a monster truck tire - on top of a telephone pole on a highway near me. In past years it's been populated by bald eagles, but they're not there this year and a goose has taken it over. I see it sitting up there when I drive by and it makes me laugh every time.

wipes chooser (unperson), Wednesday, 15 April 2026 23:51 (two weeks ago)

that's awesome. There's a giant messy osprey nest on the way to a bridge that I use sometimes, over San Francisco Bay... the parents have been there the last couple times I went by
