Park and Recreation Tertiary Characters: Who's Ya Favorite?

Has anyone done a Parks & Rec tertiary characters poll, incidentally? I think its array of minor characters is probably better than Community's at this stage.

Jean-Ralphio in a walk. Shout out to Crazy Ira and the Douche though.

I think I have to go with Joan Callamezzo. Such a great character and a great performance.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 11 October 2012 17:38 (twelve years ago)

I voted for Bobby Newport cause he gave me free candy.

Frobisher the (Viceroy), Thursday, 11 October 2012 17:39 (twelve years ago)

I've seen every episode of this show and I have no idea who half of these characters are

The Owls of Ja Rule (DJP), Thursday, 11 October 2012 17:40 (twelve years ago)

I didn't either, from just the names, but most of them came rushing back once I read their Wikipedia descriptions.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 11 October 2012 17:50 (twelve years ago)

Perd all the way.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 11 October 2012 17:51 (twelve years ago)

It was only recently that I found out Perd Hapley is a real-life news person in Los Angeles.

Kudos for putting Lil Sebastian in the poll.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 October 2012 18:51 (twelve years ago)

Who's the accounting software guy? He cracks me up every time he appears.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 October 2012 18:53 (twelve years ago)

Barney Varmn, I guess? There's a much more comprehensive list of characters here (I maxed out at 50). Some of these names just about kill me. Geoffrey Morglesberg. Randy Killnose. Sewage Joe's last name is Fantringham.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 11 October 2012 19:03 (twelve years ago)

can't find the vid of Jean-Ralphio's job interview

Legendary General Cypher Raige (Gukbe), Thursday, 11 October 2012 19:06 (twelve years ago)

The thing I like about Perd is that there doesn't seem to be any particular joke associated with him other than this constant perkiness no matter what's being discussed, and it's hilarious.

Jean-Ralphio vs Tammy II for me though.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 October 2012 19:40 (twelve years ago)

Sorry I mean Tammy I.

Matt DC, Thursday, 11 October 2012 19:40 (twelve years ago)

I had no idea before now that Paula Pell played Ron's mom.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 11 October 2012 19:43 (twelve years ago)

I feel like "GET ON YOUR FEET" should be a tertiary character

to me it's more about his convoluted phrasing than his perkiness

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 11 October 2012 19:45 (twelve years ago)

and also how he says strange meaningless or redundant things like "tonight we start with our first story" or "the story of this next dance is that it's called the worm".

I only vaguely remember that but I like to think the whole character was inspired by this:

This. I feel like the main joke with his character is that his rehearsed-sounding patter is usually just nonsensically vacuous filler: "There you have it, where it is the thing Leslie Knope just said about this situation."

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:28 (twelve years ago)

crazy ira and the douche

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:29 (twelve years ago)

yeah i like that parks is this kind soft examination of democracy (a cuddlestein mountain the thick of it) that repeatedly makes clear the problems w/ democracy aren't so much the govt as it is the vacuous (perd) or petty (joan) media and angry, idiotic citizenry.

balls, Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:34 (twelve years ago)

"There you have it, where it is the thing Leslie Knope just said about this situation."

haha yeah that one was great. some of the more subtle ones are funny because they almost slip by unnoticed as part of the generic reporter flow.

wk, Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:41 (twelve years ago)

xpost

That's definitely one of the main reasons I love it. Given the subject matter, it could be a really angry show but it just goes in a totally different direction, thanks largely to Leslie's positive attitude.

Old Lunch, Thursday, 11 October 2012 20:43 (twelve years ago)

heaps of these are actually secondary characters (eg Jean-Ralphio, Tammy II, Perd, Joan, Boobbbbby Newport), no fair cloggin the poll with them

missing perfume magnate dennis feinstein

also Harris from Animal Control

I didn't remember until recently that Dr Saperstein is the gynecologist from rosemary's baby.

Jean-Ralphio's first appearance is easily one of the show's funniest moments. His next few appearances are just funny. Then he gets increasingly tedious

ed.b, Thursday, 11 June 2015 17:18 (ten years ago)

The parts where he sings in people's faces are always my favourite.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Thursday, 11 June 2015 17:25 (ten years ago)

I love Jean-Ralphio pretty consistently. But Perd is my favorite. Pretty sure he's an alien.

Really came to love Jeremy Jamm. I thought the final season was a big letdown but all his parts were hilarious, especially laughing at his own crap joke in his last scene. I think Jon Glaser had one of the funniest parts in Louie.

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 23 July 2015 02:43 (ten years ago)

as great as Jean-Ralphio is as a character, i'm glad that he remained a tertiary character. a lesser show would've promoted him to being a regular, and he would've become irritatingly obnoxious as opposed to entertainingly obnoxious.

i think his real role was to be a personification of Tom's id -- that is, what Tom would have become if he didn't have the rest of the Parks Department to knock the worst of that shit out of him.

빨간 럼 ఎరుపు రమ్ רום אדום (Eisbaer), Thursday, 23 July 2015 02:51 (ten years ago)

and even though he wouldn't have gotten my vote, i always got a kick whenever Orin showed up:
