He was involved in a bit of controversy during the Republican primaries having to do with Santorum's endorsement of him a few years back.

Sen. Specter seemed like a man whose principles were so malleable they never presented him the slightest difficulty when the politics of an issue pointed him to a different position. Strangely, Washington always needs a leavening of politicians like Specter, who love the spotlight, but have no interest in ideas or ideals. When they align with leaders you hate, you hate them, but only as spectres, not as substance.

you mean specters right

i find i don't know much about him other than the recent "highlights".

did he twist in the wind, or did he accurately represent the median pennsylvanian for all that time?

Politicians I can sort of imitate: Phil Gramm, Arlen Specter. Not big favourites on the comedy circuit, so I've hung on to my day job.

Word to anyone out there suffering from cancer: Don't pose for photographs while holding an hourglass.

Aimless' comment, goole – "Sen. Specter seemed like a man whose principles were so malleable they never presented him the slightest difficulty when the politics of an issue pointed him to a different position" – makes the most sense.

i wish political news sites would run down a list of positions & votes taken that are a bit below the news radar

this is a good run-down of the hits from the economist: http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2012/10/remembering-arlen-specter

but it goes from the warren commission to 'borking' to anita hill to his weird impeachment vote to switching parties in 09.

if you're going to call him a 'moderate' maybe sketch out the rest of his career? what did he say about, idk, the PMRC or the 86 tax deal or iran contra or clintoncare or somalia or or or

He opposed fundamentalism and supported vigorous vote fraud prosecution and drank martinis.

I never pegged you as a guy who hates martinis.
