tbh my mistake was to eventually in sheer frustration (after thomp made some brilliant posts that were almost completely ignored) make it about the paratext (their 'youth' and experimental outlook) rather than the music, which is perfectly defensible in an aesthetic sense; that clive martin thing largely keeps it to that and uses the paratext as a means of fleshing out the arguments against

anyway, you take away my aesthetics and what have i left, this is bloody murder

nor did you engage with the thomp posts beyond saying how brilliant they were, any earnest wall of text containing a defence of something you like appeals to your vanity even if its author disclaims association with you and employs different rhetoric

sanctimoniously upbraiding other people who didn't engage with it is absurd but then you did the same in reference to

i) people failing to empathize with racists
ii) and the particular difficulties young haut-bourgeois racists have by virtue of their natural naivete about difference
iii) people failing to appreciate the vigour of youthful music (= music you like made by people age 0-70)
iv) and failing to appreciate pop music as such
v) and failing to appreciate para-pop music made by partially educated morons in particular
vi) people failing to credit 'sorry this is just how i feel' and other last resort appeals to your own authority that are not immediately persuasive outside of your own mind

the paratext is important here because the litany of justificatory material published by pc music themselves allows an apologist to reply to 'they sound like shit' with elaborate false-consciousness arguments for why they sound shit only to the uninitiated; you edged onto this territory but failed for lack of tact, cold blood, and knowledge of pop music (relative to your dissenters)

if you were a congenital moron it would be different but you can do a lot better (that is if you want to make a good case for the objects of your affection, if you want to provide endless 400+ post cadenzas of nonsense then continue as is)

i suppose the lesson here is to not upbraid unless you have sufficient ammunition to support the upbraiding - i came to the fight underprepared, and improvised badly in my huff, appealing to some inculcated suspicion of naivete without considering whether naivete is a) a laudable attribute or b) whether the hipster racism, let alone the para-pop music, was even particularly naive

i wasn't trying to set up a false consciousness argument, merely assert that the stock position of no-caveats dismissiveness didn't allow for the possibility of the music having any merit external to one's experience - perhaps a touch more sangfroid and nakhic hardasstrelsy could have suited this purpose, rather than the simpering assertions of musical quality it got
