genuinely obsessed with his stuff. that perfect mix of rough (sidestepping the bullying of frankie boyle) and touching and ridiculous

I don't know, it's much more variable than the other Scottish comedy shows on the block - for every "Wrong way down a one way street" there's a "Lloyds pharMAcy", and I have real doubts it'll ever get to the heights of the Falconhoof "Kill Jester" again - Gary Tank Commander is solidly good, and Burnistoun (although equally prone to misfires) stomps all over it with Jolly Boy John. I'll definitely be iPlayering it though.

Did anyone else ever try following him on Twitter? SERIOUSLY something wrong with him.

I love Limmy. Lloyds Pharmacy was hilarious for me. Yes or noo, all the Adventure Calls, the amazing "will I bring another spoon" sketch. I can't even remember all the ones I like cos there are so many.

Of the new clips, I like the one with the guy in the park.

i followed him on twitter for a while, had to give up after not long. though i do have some kind of admiration for someone who is a professional success despite spending all day picking fights with strangers.

The Bus trip to Yoker sketch is his crowning achievement IMO. Yeah his Twitter is pretty crazed.

Remarkable how many Limmyisms are still current between me and the missus: "a child's *sweetie*, officer?", "20s *plenty*?" "youse *guys*???", "REQUIEM" etc etc

The "Yoker" clip is all time. Never seen the "touching" one upthread before (aka Millport I guess), after a robustly shit day of it, mostly due to work, this struck a chord that's resonating like a tuning fork right now. Looking fwd to the new series.

"Yoker" is great. I have no need to follow his twitter as it's all endlessly retweeted into my stream anyway.

I managed one episode of Gary Tank Commander and thought it was excruciating.

I quite frequently get people retweeting him in my twitter stream... and he doesn't seem very funny, to be honest.

The Twitter stuff isn't really representative of his TV comedy. Though I find the repetition and bloody-mindedness of his Twitter does sort of amuse me in a way.

In general with Limmy it's not a love it or hate it thing, but I definitely have recommended him to a few friends who saw no value in his sketches whatsoever.

I also think it's really clear from a lot of the sketches that he has been a major raver at some point, I can't pinpoint this in every sketch but his humour is definitely of that brand to me.

My dad frequently tells me how much he loves the sketch with the magic picture frame and his dad in it. Limmy's humour is at its best when it reflects that particular Scottish sense of neither being derogatory /laughing at somebody's expense nor self deprecating - just funny because it is.

Much as I love Burnistoun and agree that both are hit and miss, I think Limmy's highs are higher.

The "Nightmare" sketch had me in hysterics first time I watched it.

So many good Limmy's sketches. I bought series 1 on DVD but when it came to watching it my flatmate was just unimpressed and I had to admit that series lacked a lot of the best of his work.

the way the "new characters" sketches - drunk lassie, soaking guy etc. - built to their final realisation was masterful.

Looking forward to the new series. S2 was brilliant. Easily the best British sketch show (not that there's much competition) since The Fast Show and arguably more inventive.

Each to their own, but I find it surprising that people say Limmy is hit and miss compared to Burnistoun. There are a few great Burnistoun sketches (2 Litre Bottle of Ginger, The Lift, the single issue MP, er that's about it) but it's always been seriously patchy. The latest series was piss poor; lazy writing, a lack of imagination. With stuff like Jolly Boy John it's as if they're trying to go for the weirdness of Limmy, but it totally falls flat and just comes across as the sort of 'random' wacky shit Limmy takes the piss out of so well (youtube the Limmy 'random' sketch from the pilot - one of my favourites).

There are endless Limmy sketches imo.

agree slightly about s2 being better than the first, but i can watch both over and over, soaking it up like whale noise. can't do this with any other tv show at all ever, there's something almost songlike and rhythmic about his stuff

vague mutterings online about a beef between him and his older brother, saying limmy jr robbed a lot of material from his bro. apparently elder limmy did 'requiem' for real in the 80s which is kinda horrifying if still a bit amusing

I can watch his stream for ages but it's an on-in-the-background sort of thing usually. There is a yt channel which compiles short (like 1-2 minutes or less) clips too.

I enjoy sticking on the old TV 'analysis' or some of the video games he plays for twenty minutes here and there, but there does seem to be a lot of people who hunker down for a focused four-hour stream, which yeah is behaviour that's very alien to me.

Idk, some of his social media stuff is arguably the pinnacle. Those Vines!

Imo he is best when working with straight actors which gives a reasonable context to his whole thing.

He had the promise of a young Steve Martin or Rowan Atkinson. Someone who is just naturally funny with unique body language to express it. He could be making movies by now instead of retreating into a corner.

His autobiography had barely a moment of happiness in it.

i mean, he says so, but if you watch the stream or just the clips channel you'll see how he's in a better place than a few years ago

He would probably agree with you. His book has a strong vien of a particularly Scottish fear of failure and ridicule. Keep your expectations limited and know your place!

Once again baffled at the part of this thread where someone laments Limmy's failure to live up to his potential of having the career of Rowan Atkinson.

What kind of career did Limmy want? He's not dead yet.

Limmy has the career he wants, just not the one poster everything wanted for him.

I do think he's not really made the most of his talents but his choice.

I would like to see him make sketches again someday, some of those improvised scenes he did on twitch could be reworked really well.

i'd like to see him host a 3-2-1 reboot

I love his sketches but listening to his autobiography audiobook it sounds like someone with an amazing imagination, an urge to have fun and create things, but also finds the pressures of working in the public domain, and delivering to expectation extremely tough to deal with. It's not something that gets discussed enough about creative people I guess: We often just assume that creative minds are also extroverted minds, possibly because those are the ones that find it easiest to succeed
